The Red Sox are expected to place Kevin Youkilis (back) on the disabled list.
Youkilis has been bothered by discomfort in his lower back recently, so he'll get some time to rest. The Red Sox are expected to promote prospect catcher/designated hitter Ryan Lavarnway from the minors to take his place on the roster while Jed Lowrie and Mike Aviles should share playing time at the hot corner.
