I'll keep it short and sweet --- this move is not nearly as groundbreaking as Brian thinks it is.

Sorry.

Hypothetical...

what if every Razor supporter who ever supported Razor drops BG's products because of this move, but countless scores of '90s collectors who've been out of the hobby see "Leaf" and buy it up...I mean who doesn't watch Spike TV?

Is the move a good one in this case?

Meaning getting rid of the disgruntled former supporters and starting a new customer base with visions of grandeur in their respective eyes.

I abandoned ship on his products before this move.

And I can't speak for anyone else, but I pretty much stopped buying Leaf after 1990.

While that might be true in theory, he'd have to be able to release an actual BASEBALL CARD PRODUCT, which, according to the "new" Leaf website, they will NOT be doing.

Besides, if memory serves me correctly, other than the 1990 Leaf Frank Thomas, which may be worth all of $10 today, not one single Leaf card from 1985-1993 is worth more than a ham sandwich from Subway.

The same can not be said for UD, Fleer and Topps.

Good luck.

Razor is still Razor. BG is still in charge. All the good Leaf brands were absorbed by Panini.

Yeah, I'm just trying to keep the conversation moving forward without bashing. My personal feelings?

If true, that would make even less sense, since supposedly Razor has a good reputation in the non-baseball card market, or at least that's the story Brian has been trying to hammer into our heads the past 18 months or so.

Can he make Leaf Limited? What about Leaf Century(remember Panini made it but didn't distribute it? It had Ruth and Gehrig and Cobb stuff in it, I remember seeing actual cards in the sell sheet.)

From what's been shown, it seems like he's more worried about putting an established brand name on Razor products (MMA, Pop Century, etc.).

Haven't heard one word about re-introducing ANYTHING Leaf yet.

If that were to happen, it might actually seem like a good move, and I'd probably buy some ( I liked Leaf!). Otherwise, like has been said, he's just trying to buy a reputation with the name.

If you're buying the Leaf brand name, use it for Leaf products, don't just waste the name to re-brand yours.

I think an announcement about Ryan Leaf would have been better received than this one.

It would have been more exciting.

I would have called them a moron and told them it was the wrong forum, but still, more exciting and interesting.

So now I go from "Razor sucks" to "Leaf Sucks"?? I can do that. Less syllables.

You'll have to change your personalized license plate.

So from reading that press release:

1). Leaf "acquired" all non-baseball brands of the Razor Entertainment group. I didn't realize that Razor had other "brands". Unless they mean licenses (and judging by their first release, I guess that's what it means), in which case that must have been some interesting paperwork.

2). As previously mentioned, they are giving up the Razor name which supposedly has a good rep in the non-sports market

3). The only thing "Razor" has is baseball, which apparently is not going to be produced again due to "market conditions".

4). Who is left in charge of the remnants of Razor? An office fern that has power of attorney?

I've said for a while that they remind me of Classic, and with this step Brian continues to prove my thought right; as Score Board changed their name to Classic Games at one point. Can't wait to see how this flames out.

Is the new Leaf Trading Card Company Razor Entertainment Group?
NO! – Leaf is committed to continuing the new hobby traditions that it's president, Brian Gray, introduced to the hobby as the president of Razor, however, Leaf is NOT related in any manner to Razor Entertainment Group or to any other manufacturer in the trading card business.

Wow Brian nice use of capital letters when stating NO in a FAQ on a site that was just unveiled TODAY.

And how is leaf NOT related yet has all the same employees. Some one needs to learn the definition of "any manner".

It is nice to see that Leaf also acquired Razor's phone-block from Dallas.

Should be interesting.. I look forward to something other than Topps as they are still putting out the same crap at high prices..

At least with Razor/Leaf we will know we are getting something of value we like instead of cards that have no value with the exception of a few..

You can gamble with your money as you see fit and we'll gamble with our money as we see fit..
