So, for all of you that make this sound so simple, I would like to hear your answers to these questions.

Who gets paid?
-What sports?
-Do you realize that WOMEN will get paid out, the same as men as a whole. So if you pay 100 football players, you are then paying womens volleyball, tennis, golf, and softball just to equal that out.
-Do Redshirts get paid?
-Do Walk-ons get paid?
-Equal payments to all?
-Where is the money coming from?
-Will all the coaches take paycuts to make it happen?
-Will other sports get shut down to make this happen?
-Which ones?
-Can players get paid from outside sources?

How much do they get paid?

etc
etc
etc
etc

It is NOT cut and dry

Of course women don't get paid as much as men, let's at least keep it real world here. And only real sports, sorry equestrian and bowling teams.

It's real simple. Allow student athletes to secure endorsement deals.

If you are in demand, you will earn some extra cash. If you aren't in demand, you won't. We already give money (scholarships) to some and not to others (walk-ons).

I'm not really in support of the NCAA paying athletes. Let the athletes themselves dictate what they can earn.

This will jeopardize the already flawed recruiting process. The smaller schools will suffer more than they already do if something like this were implemented.

I understand what you are saying Chris but I think it actually balances things out. Alabama doesn't get 3 top notch RBs in one class if they are all competing for not only playing time but contracts from Nike.

That all gets determined before they sign. That isnt how recruiting should be done. An athlete shouldnt go to whatever school has a car dealership to sign them. Honestly it invites more corruption.

I doubt more than 1% of all players would get something like that. If you are elite and truly driving revenue, you should be rewarded.

Question - if athletes were to be paid because they perform a service for the university and their services bring in revenue, what about paying student researchers? These students get on patents and publications that increases funding to those particular departments/university, but they do not see any monetary compensation for their efforts.

Fair enough. The same could be said of student athletes - they're mostly idiots who couldn't have received admission to that school anyway (except maybe Arizona St.) and easily replaceable. Who cares if they're not paid?

My answer was sarcasm but your thought process might be off.

A High School Athlete's GPA Vs. Average High School Student's GPA
A High School Athlete's GPA Vs. Average High School Student's GPA | Everyday Life - Global Post

I got the sarcasm, I just wanted to play devil's advocate with sarcasm :)

We only hear about the "idiots" because that's good headline stuff. Most of the student athletes I've known were extremely smart and did very well in their classes. In fact, most (that I knew) were science and engineering majors.

The way I understand it (and that it seems to be understood by the media), is that BG did not comission the signing of these in any way.

What BG DID do is buy what was signed from this broker and put it into cards. While it is contributing to the illegality (according to NCAA made up rules only) of the situation, BG seemingly had nothing to do with the direct deal that Manziel had with this guy.

If Leaf approached the guy with a potential deal and/or money, wouldn't that give the guy the reason to get a deal done so they would be a factor? Hypothetically speaking, of course
