If the guy is THAT in demand, people shouldn't care if he signed an actual band-aid (gu DNA?)

If the card is the only one in an set that's all exactly the same, that looks kinda trashy. I'm thinking of the few UD releases 2006 that had random silver stickers when everything else was clear.

Scan all gu swatches and post them in a data base. Shake up the hobby, and make your own product a big success

The set might actually end up being a 15 card set with cards #/10,#/5, and#/1...
The set would be stand alone completely different than the products in which it is inserted...

If you can sit down with a player and have him sign a bunch of stickers, why can't you do the same with a bunch of cards?

This sounds like more of a timing issue

Ichiro or Sadaharo Oh were the first 2 names that came to mind.

It seems like the signers schedule requires these cards be designed, produced and signed in one week. I've never produced cards but to me that sounds close to impossible.

If the cards can't be produced in time and the athlete is not willing to sign at a later date, I vote for not including them.

This hobby needs to get rid of freaking stickers. It's the laziest and ugliest thing to happen to autographs.

I would much rather a redemption for a signed 8X10 of this amazing player.

Still find it hard to believe that some people say "I will only sign on this day no matter what! Its stickers or nothing!" Have you tried telling them that you need some time to produce the cards so they can sign them? Did they actually say to you "Oh by the way, you know those stickers companies use these days? Well, I wouldn't mind signing those at all!"

I think it may mean a 15 card set with each card having 3 versions for a total of 16 copies per card. Not sure what the number 15 represents, and I am not sure I wouldn't prefer a breakdown with less copies (15*16=240, so maybe 6 cards /40 or 4 cards /60) which would make it more reasonable to build a set. Of course, if the number is significant and commemorates something specific, it makes a lot of sense.

Couple of notions..

For a project this tiny have you considered fine art printing instead of commercial? Definitely could be some possibilities for producing something nice on this kind of timeline.

Inverted trapped auto. Sign the top 'frame' layer that's basic/plain that can be foil stamped later and the recessed 'trap' is the player photo.

Regular trapped auto. If a vintage player, a near full card sized piece of vintage paper signed with a great bold fountain pen signature. Modern could be a little more normal.

I've always liked the ink variation to pair with foil stamp/color variation for the levels of scarcity. Perhaps, primary team color for the big run, secondary team color for the middle and gold for the 1/1? Ie if it was a former Giant, the ink colors would be black, orange and gold.

Have a very basic card printed commercially and then do all the treatments after the fact (ie foils/die cuts etc.), they can be done very well by hand so you don't have to run the sheets back through commercial equipment and risk losing the signatures. A master printer could foil stamp, die-cut, emboss etc. with excellent results.

I could keep pretending with you, but I think that's probably enough fun for me for now..

It'd be tight but not impossible to get a card printed, if you need any contacts for non-commercial I can check some for you.

Good luck!

They can't all the manufacturers use plain jersey they buy from sports authority
They just use different colors and call it game used

Ichiro was my first guess, Oh would be in that top 5, but neither of them are really all too tough in terms of signatures. Ichiro hasn't done card company releases for a while, but getting something done through / from Mill Creek isn't hard at all, just expensive.

As for the question, I'd agree that if it's "this or nothing", and it makes financial sense, I'd say go for the trapped autograph format rather than just slapping a sticker on a card. Some trapped signature cards, when done well, look even nicer than an on-card signatuer (thinking SpX vs. Bowman's Best for comparison).

Thats actually a great idea!!! Instead of getting this super elusive signing, supa-star to sign stupid stickers (i understand the cards can't be made in time), get him to sign a bunch of 8x10s and even a few 16X20's and just insert them as a redemption. It would add something very unique to your product, especially if this guy is as elusive as you say he is and IMO and i bet a large group of collectors here would much rather have a nice hard signed autograph on a nice 8x10 or 16x20. You would be able to get the 8x10s, 16x20s, very easily and quickly.

Hell, if you wanted to, you could still get the guy to sign some stickers as well, just to keep the "Card Only" guys happy as well. Just make the card a SP and that there will add more value to the set as well.

Definitely like the idea of 8x10/16x20 autoed pics in packs as redems,

Don't laugh at my jokes.
I had the assumption that it was pronounced "coonts" but apparently it isn't.

It is, but it looks funny.

As for the topic at hand, I am fine with it, but make it fit the design... tired of these ugly stickers on plain cards...
