going from what thome was to what he is now is a little different than 170 pounds to 215, i mean he got HUGE (its like saying bonds just started working out hard thats why he got so much bigger haha)..and not only that but he came up during the steroid era and played with alot of guys that took the stuff...i mean its pretty easy to connect the dots, dont get me wrong i like jim thome Im just saying i hate how everybody lets him off the hook

Thome with HR #569, and he's in that group where he can pass 4 guys in a hurry. 18 more and he passes Palmiero, then Killebrew then McGwire and finally Frank Robinson. He'll probably be #8 by the end of the season.

Pretty impressive for a guy who I've never worried about having juiced up. He's just "country strong" and obviously his being able to DH has lengthened his career significantly.

not trying to start an argument in this thread but he is one player that i am almost positive that has juiced...i hate how he gets a pass because he is a nice guy in the league

doesnt exactly look country strong to me

This is the argument that pisses me off more than any one about PEDs. You look at a picture of a "kid" who is 19 or 20 years old. He has likely not lifted many weights, doesn't have the best nutritional values, and isn't working out correctly. He also had school, maybe a job, and other things in his life.

He then gets drafted, has the BEST strength coaches in the world, a nutritionist, and this is now his FULL TIME JOB. Likely lifting 5 times a week, eating correctly to gain muscle mass, and now has the time to do it religously.

Almost EVERY single ball player gains weight, gains muscle, and is MUCH stronger after being in professional baseball for 4-5 years. If they aren't, then they are not giving the effort.

I have used this example before, and will again. I stepped on campus at Purdue when I was 17 years old. I tried to lift, but didn't work that hard at it. I was 17, 6'4" 170 pounds. By the end of my 3rd year on campus, I was 20 years old, 6'4" and 215 pounds. I worked hard, I lifted, I took protein shakes, and this was all with having school to deal with. Imagine if I didn't have school, study table, etc to deal with? Oh, and I NEVER took anything that was even questionable!

ehhhhh, this argument drives me NUTS.

And how many years did this transformation take? 7-8-9 years? You don't think someone can gain 30-40 pounds of muscle in that time? Shoot, I am willing to say that many people on these boards alone have gained 15-20 pounds of muscle in 1 YEAR, let along 5- pounds of muscle per year over a span of time.

I am just tired of the "connecting of dots", because there is no evidence and all you are doing is guessing.

i understand you point completely im just sick of everyone else getting accused of steroids maybe because they are not as well liked as thome, its as if he just gets overlooked for some reason.

Both teams might want to mix in some extra batting practice.

Thome doesn't get a "free pass" because he's nice or I like him.

I just think his muscle progression was due to work, not PEDs. His name has never been on a test list, cited in a players' union report or anything even close to it. There is no hint he had any documented connection to it. For instance, I'm a huge "Pudge" Rodriguez fan, but I'm pretty sure he had taken somthing in the past. I was a big McGwire fan, but I wasn't naive enough to think he wasn't on PEDs. I just happen to think Thome was, and is, "clean" and that makes me appreciate his accomplishments even more . A couple of other players I think were clean are Biggio, Griffey Jr. and currently, Ryan Howard, and I put Thome in that group too.

Alex Gordon sent to Triple A -Omaha.

He's going to have a hard time getting his job back unless Callaspo becomes a defensive liability. Royals did a horrible job handling Gordon from day 1. I hope he comes around one day.

No stance on Thome, but your facts are a little off base here. Most minor leagues teams today don't have nutritionists and full time strength coaches. Most players aren't eating all that great either as the meal money was just increased to $25/day. Most minor leaguers are working out at Gold's Gym, etc and while they have a program, it's a far cry from the MLB. That's in 2010. Thome went through the minors in 1990-1994ish?
