Why is it that if someone buys a card here for $5 and sells it for $25, we call it "a flip" and applaud him?

But if Mr Mint buys a collection for $5000 and sells it for $25000, we call him a *********?

There are right and wrong ways of buying and flipping. I don't know the guy, but it doesn't seem like people around here think he does things the right way. Could it be bitter people on here who are out of touch? Well, sure.

We might if this was a message board for pawn stores.

ANYONE that made a post on these boards about buying a collection from someone for $5000 and selling it for $25000 would get absolutely crucified.

Al Rosen the ball player was great... Al Rosen the dealer... a Big Time Idiot :benson: . I'll leave it at that.

back in early 1990s he once advertised a full page ad in SCD for the newly discovered Tango Egg cards (hoard of over 500 cards) at fairly good prices with pictures of many of them, ....and he didnt even own a single one of them. If you would have called asking to buy, he would say, "sorry, that player is sold out". He was seeing what the demand was for them before he actually bought some to resell... Collectors caught on quick what type of guy Mr Mint was/is.... and he got worse after that if you can believe it..... stay clear

People dont HAVE to sell to him, they choose to sell because money talks.
Like the people said before, he travels to them. also has to sell vintage cards in bulk in a bad economy. Adds up. now im not saying he isnt just a ****** of a person. But im saying going after making a good turn around just dosnt make a person bad.

It probably depends if the person he bought the cards from knew what they were doing. I think many people assume Mr. Mint buys cards from people who don't know what they're doing.

I'm not arguing with you at all. I have no idea if he is a ****** or not, but most people have judged him here without ever having any interaction with him at all. I made it a point years ago to never judge anyone based on someone else's opinion of them. Here is the only remotely close experience I have had with him:

One of my leather vendors had a brother whose son had died and had amassed a pretty sizable collection of cards. I figured it was all 80s and 90s junk, but I called him nonetheless. It turns out this guy's collection was WAY out of my league: a PSA 8 1933 Goudey Ruth, a Ruth SS baseball with JSA authentication, a ton of PSA graded Mantles, etc. I told him he needed to contact Mr Mint, and he did. Al Rosen flew to his house, made him a fair offer, paid him in cash, and left with the collection. Later, I talked with my leather vendor and he thanked me for the referral. He said that his brother had nothing but nice things to say about Mr Mint and the transaction.

I always thought that Jaypers413 was like Austin 3:16, which was a play on John 3:16, with yours making reference to Philippians 4:13, a frequently quoted scripture by players when they sign autographs. And then yesterday I realized that your birthday was April 13th.

And then you realized that, like Mr. Mint, I'm Jewish.

Kinda anticlimactic when you think about it, huh.

I thought that with full knowledge of your tribesmanship, which just made it more difficult for me to decipher.

On a related note, how do you know Al Rosen is Jewish? ;)

Yeah I figured you all knew who it was.. Just wanted to add my two cents and call him a ****** too!

It's only because he has made a killing in this hobby and people familiar with cards believe he is the man. I have bought from him in the past and sold stuff to him. Arrogance will come to anyone after being called the best after a while.

Wrong. There are plenty of successful people who are humble.

And when people within the industry seem to think the guy has issues, well I would tend to think he has some issues. Just sayin'.

Ok, I am wrong big time card player. Plenty of people in the hobby are just like him, Probably 75% of them are **********.

I have met him and he is a dick in person, He buys for the right price and sells at an even better one. Dealers out there try and steal the stuff from people and lie to them just to pay nothing. Rosen is honest about what a person has and they can sell it through and auction house and make great money. Once he pulls the wads of cash out, People take it and run. Most people bashing him on here are just jealous at his cash on hand to close the deals. If any of them had a chance they would be doing the same thing.

This is 100% ******** and I have seen it in person to know it is a fact that he is NOT always honest with people, especially older folks.
