Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Cliff Lee 9/15

Not sure what Cliff Lee can do tonight to stay relevant (Okay, a no-hitter would do it), but look what he has done in Aug/Sept, 7 games total:

55 2/3 IP, 0.48 ERA, 3 ER, 34 Hits, 10 BB, 0.79 WHIP, 52 K
6 Wins
2 shutouts

The Marlins didn't put up much of a fight against Kendrick in the first game, so maybe he'll be able to cruise through the second.

Cliff Lee after 6 is spinning a shutout

6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K

When's the last time Lee, Halladay, or Kershaw had a bad game?

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Cliff Lee 9/15

Cliff Lee with 2 outs in the 9th and an 0-2 count gives up a HR to Jose Lopez to lose his 7th shutout and maybe a win. A little disappointing, but still a damn good line.

9 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 12K

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Cliff Lee 9/15

Phillies don't score so Lee gets a no decision. Updated stats and added a few categories

Kershaw
218 IP, 19 Wins, 2.30 ERA, 51 BB, 236 K, 0.98 WHIP, 2 Shutouts, 5 Complete Games, .207 BAA, 2.55 DIPS

Halladay
219 IP, 18 Wins, 2.34 ERA, 30 BB, 211 K, 1.04 WHIP, 1 Shutout, 8 Complete Games, .241 BAA, 2.34 DIPS

Lee
219 IP, 16 Wins, 2.38 ERA, 42 BB, 223 K, 1.02 WHIP, 6 Shutouts, 6 Complete Games, .225 BAA, 2.78 DIPS

Kennedy
208 IP, 19 Wins, 2.99 ERA, 52 BB, 182 K, 1.12 WHIP, 1 Shutout, 1 Complete Game, .233 BAA, 3.50 DIPS

Amazingly, these are probably going to be career best years for both Lee and Halladay and at least one and maybe both will fail to win the award this year.

You need some PeptoBismo for that diarrhea of the mouth. Do you type just because you have a keyboard? Like a monkey banging on a drum set, just because it's there?

It is anything but ridiculous when you take into account the historical emphasis on the Cy Young winner pitching on a playoff team. Plus, his stats are right there with Kershaw.

Lee
219 IP, 16 Wins, 2.38 ERA, 42 BB, 223 K, 1.02 WHIP, 6 Shutouts, 6 Complete Games, .225 BAA, 2.78 DIPS

I understand the numbers, Kershaw has more wins on a subpar team to say the least.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Cliff Lee 9/15

All three are deserving obviously.

I think Lee has a slight edge due to his 6 complete game shutouts. Stats are about even, but Kershaw is 100% deserving at this point. If Lee hadn't given up that homer tonight, it would be his (imo) I think at this point it's those two, but God I love having two of the top three pitching on my team :)

Guess the next start for all three will be the difference

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Cliff Lee 9/15

please, Lee is a pitching God and Kershaw is a guy having a good year playing in a pathetic divison. We saw what
Kersahw would do if he had to play the Braves, he lost.

Lee has more complete game shutouts in the last two months than Kershaw had the entire year. Lee hasn't lost
since July 25, in that stretch he has beaten Milwaukee, Arizona and the Braves, which look to be the other playoff
teams. Kershaw's last two losses were against the Braves and Dbacks.

You all should open up a newspaper every once in a while. Hate me, that's fine, but don't ignore the best pitcher
in the NL just cause I root for him.

That's probably what they said at the time when Lee won his Cy with Cleveland

Dude, Lee and Halladay are pitching just nothing short of amazing. So is Kershaw. Give the guy his due.

Remember, this is the Cy Young we are talking about, not the MVP. Recent history shows that the best pitchers are selected regardless of what team they are on. (Hernandez, Grienke, Lee, Webb, etc...)

Can we just give this to Halladay already? Complete game shutout with practically NO run support.

Kevin

If a Pitcher throws a CG shutout do they need more than 1 run of support?

Point taken. But I think Kevin's point was that Halladay had no margin for error.

True, pitching for a playoff team does not hold as much weight as it used to, but even Neyer and Bill James give a "Victory Bonus" to pitchers pitching for a playoff team in their Cy Young Predictor model.
