Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay 9/19

Halladay playing with the third string defense behind him. This outing won't help his cause any.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay 9/19

Halladay's final line for the night.

8 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 6 K

The four walks make it pretty obvious he was off tonight. Cy Young is there for the taking for Kershaw.

Kennedy with a monster start - 8 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 12 SO. That puts him solidly back in contention.

Great start, but with only one start left I don't think he has enough time to catch up to the other three.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Halladay 9/19

The one thing that might help Kennedy is that his next start could be the Division clincher. D-Backs currently have a Magic Number of 4 so his next start might mean something. Kershaws havnt meant anything since May and the Phillies are pretty close to locking up HFA throughout the NL Playoffs so will Lee and Halladay try to win or just get the work in and save urself for the post season.

Ian Kennedy has been the best pitcher in the NL this season, period. Without his efforts, the D-Backs wouldn't be in contention.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Kershaw and Lee 9/20

Kershaw goes later tonight. Lee is throwing a lot of pitches as the Phillies have made multiple errors. They really have played poorly since they clinched. Phillies aren't scoring runs for him again.

Re: NL Cy Young Watch - Kershaw and Lee 9/20

Lee is most likely done as he's thrown 120 pitches and is losing 3-0 after seven innings.

The CY Young award is for the best pitcher. Your criteria is useful perhaps in determining the MVP but the Cy Young award is distinctly different from the MVP. I agree Kennedy has pitched superbly this year and without his contributions the D-Backs would not be where they are but he is not the best pitcher in the league. There are currently three other pitchers in Halladay, Lee and Kershaw who statistically across the board are better. Not taking anything away from Kennedy but I don't personally believe he's the best pitcher in the National League.

Kershaw cruising through 7 innings though the Giants lineup is pretty sad.

Looks like Kershaw is tiring. Thought he had Burrell on two of those pitches but oh well. And that last slider to Torres, wow, he is not getting that called third strike.

Kershaw done after 7 1/3 and leaves with a 2-1 lead and two runners on, but Jansen finishes the inning without a problem.

Personally, I'm not too impressed with this start. Thankfully for Kershaw, neither Halladay nor Lee had great starts either. Only Kennedy had an incredible start this time around.
