Rumors. I don't know how badly the Giants want him back. I know they'll make the $14m/1 year qualifying offer, but I don't know how agressivly they'll pursue anything beyond that. Giants brass has made it sound like they're planning on doing what it takes to have him back next year, but it's not uncommon for the Giants brass to say one thing and do another.
The fact that they declined to trade Lincecum, Pence, or Lopez at the deadline or after they were claimed on wavers makes me think they either really want them back, or they didn't like the offers they were getting and would rather have a draft pick.
But the Mariners wouldn't have to give up a pick since their pick would be in the top 10. I think they have the 7th worse record in baseball while the Giants have the 13th or 14th worst.
