Awesome!! Let us know what you pick up 8-)

And just for conversation, I'm going to post some pics from scans I've saved over the years of cuts, platinums, oddballs, etc. The first pic I'm posting is of the full Cy Youngs Cut set. This is the only subset of cuts I've got all scans of. The sure look nice together! Oh to be rich ;)

I'm glad maddux didn't end up on any of the cuts...

...me too, as we would not have been able to decipher his sig....[/quote:12t5d0ie]

play nice.........its not that bad all the time....

LOVE Maddux and have a couple of his autos. I can almost read Mad Dog, actually no I can't. His M's in Mad Dog and Maddux are unique to say the least.

jpcz: Great story man! You've told me it before but it's still wicked cool to imagine getting a tin for 17!! And then getting a dual with Griffey!! :o The best price I ever got on a tin was 30... and guess what... it was resealed. You stories a little better than mine.

stev-a-reno: To be honest, I would have preferred Maddux on the cuts over Clemens and Johnson 2 to 3 times. I think Maddux/Spahn would have been a cool card.

thenumberonemetfan: Yeah, this is the way this set goes. Ask anyone who watches the cards regularly... prices fluctuate so much. jpcz and I have watched some immortals end at 100 and then the next time it shows it goes for 350. It's crazy.

Just to show you, that Mattingly immortal that ended tonight (175) is the second highest sale i've seen and recorded....the highest is 180 so it's not too far off. Wish i would have put the dates down for the sales so i know when the last one i saw was...but im thinking 4-5 months ago..

Found this on ebay while doing a search....it would be the highest sale i have seen and recorded, but not by very much. Not too bad a deal, seeing as how these immortals are harder and harder to come by

Yeah, Wade and his chicken- ate it before every game.

From Wiki...

Superstitions
Boggs was known for his superstitions as much as his hitting. He ate chicken before every game (Jim Rice once called Boggs "chicken man"), woke up at the same time every day, took exactly 150 ground balls in practice, took batting practice at 5:17, and ran sprints at 7:17. His route to and from his position in the field beat a path to the home dugout. He drew the Hebrew word "Chai", meaning "life", in the batter's box before each at-bat, though he is not Jewish.

Nice card......makes me laugh whenever I see it.....

Dont mean for a third post in a row (although Scott helped by breaking it up), but been thinking of a few things. Since i listed the sales price of the Mattingly, thought i might give you all an idea of the immortal prices. I hooked up with the beckett price research team a year or so back and got a spreadsheet from them of all tracked sales of the immortal cards. I have since added every other one ive seen, including mine from outside ebay as well as Dave's. Here is the highest recorded price paid for each immortal (rounded to nearest dollar)

Brooks Robinson: $58
Cal Ripken: no reported/seen sales
Don Mattingly:$180
Eric Gagne: $89
Frank Thomas: $330!!
Gary Carter: $184 (i made that guy pay badly for outbidding me  ), next highest was $75
Greg Maddux: $730
Jim Bunning: $60
Ken Griffey: $474
Nolan Ryan: $586
Ozzie Smith: $138
Roger Clemens: $600
Randy Johnson: $500
Steve Carlton: $57
Stan Musial:$130
Tony Gwynn:$305!!
Tom Seaver: $125
Wade Boggs: $130
Will Clark: $81
Willie McCovey: $150

And the two platinum sales i've seen: Mattingly ($869) and Clark ($535)

Just a little idea of the prices for each...a few of the top sales are purchases i've made, one i think Dave made, and the rest have gone at auction. Surprisingly, the Thomas and Gwynn both were auctions, as were the platinums. Fortunately, i made up some of the higher priced sales with some steals of my own. If you are interested in any immortal pricing, let me know, especially if you are making a deal offline and want to know if its a good price. Between beckett looking, then passing the info to me, i think i have a great idea of the values of each card.

John- cool stuff!! We have seen some crazy bidding wars on these immortals, haven't we. And then, the wars will stop and prices will fall back down... and then shoot back up!! Those sellers who catch the high arc on the roller coaster are the lucky ones. The Gwynn for 305... Gagne for 89... Carter for 184. Scary to think what the first Ripken to hit the market in 3 years will do... 1K+?? Definitely possible.

I have always been a closet fan of this product. It has been very hard to try to collect anything because the local shops here don't normally do the High end products which this was classified under back in the day. Anyway, I had an opportunity to pick up this card a while back but I had a friend swindle it away from me for some decent prospects and stuff I needed. I really regretted moving it as I am a Griffey fan, especially of cards picturing him in an M's jersey. I loved the fact too that it was an on card auto. This all went down about two years ago.

Fast forward to this year about 2 months ago. I was talking with one of our resident Griffey fans, (Laneyb) about my intentions of acquiring a Griffey auto for my pc. After negotiations stalled with him, he simply asked for my addy. Well about 3 days later, I got a little package from him with this in it. A new copy of the card I had foolishly traded away was back in my PC.

Here it is..........

griffeyauto.jpg

I have been hooked ever since. If any of you guys have any dupes of autos from the set, I would love to see what you have and perhaps work a deal to pick up a few.

Thanks for this great thread!

Thanks Dave!

I'm 16 cards away from completing the Dual Auto set but, I believe that collectors are focusing on this set which is making it hard to complete. Don't have any of them scanned into my bucket gonna wait till it's completed so it may be awhile before it gets in there

Thanks again for creating this thread!

blanning71: Welcome to the addicting world that is Ultimate Signature! That Bruce... you gotta watch out for him ;) That was pretty amazing of him to send you that card! I agree, Griffey in an M's jersey is just classic. I haven't figured out the pairing with Joe Morgan, but it is what it is I guess. Thanks for sharing. I personally have no dupes, but once word spreads, hopefully we'll see some cards pulled out that will become available.

1st4040: Congrats!!! Can't beat an on-card #/99 of your player for under 20! Nice job.

bodisurfa: Very nice! Congrats, 16 from finishing is a tremendous feat. There's no doubt about it, this set has retained or gained in value and popularity since its release.

I agree, it can be addicting. And I second Bruce as being a class act. He and I are going to go to a show this coming weekend. Iam looking forward to it. Hopefully I can find a few more nice pieces from US to add to my PC.

Good luck at the show, Brian! Hope you run across some beautes. Let us know if you pick anything up!

Ok, last post of the night. This is the MVPs cut set. I only know of 2 of them being pulled. The Quad was listed a while ago on ebay, I don't think it sold though. Beautiful card.

(I sure hope the Munson cut on the 1/2 fits a little better!)

Darn, competition.... ;) send me a PM with what you need and I'll keep my eyes out. I suspect we are in the same boat for many of these. I'm 12/13 (Piazza/Clemens not ever made we think) away and holding............

Get 'em scanned!!
