that is gorgeous! absolutely magnificent! the super script is one card i have never even seen of nomar at auction. burbank has one but i am not willing to kick out $80 for it and since they have no photo up... i still havent seen it! ;)

So I've noticed Burbank and their through the roof prices on Belle cards as well. I'm sure it's been asked and poured over in other threads, etc. but what is the deal with them? What is with some of their prices being so high sometimes?

their prices are bonkers, but they continue to keep them high so they are moving some product to someone somewhere... i would imagine that some collectors will bite the bullet due to scarcity, some because of lack of patience, some with too much disposable income, and some are batshit nuts! i have watched less than rare 98 nomar press proofs go at auction for $3-7 maybe a touch higher and they have had one end at $23.50 and one listed at $23.50 right now.

carrsallstars and andruwhrjones... BRAVO! BRAVO!

Nice stuff guys! Here is my latest:

Leaves me with just 4 more cards from 1996 left to find. Sportflix AP, Zenith AP, Aficionado First Pitch Preview, and MLB Pins(?).

Glad to see you got it. Does the front have any differences at all?

Do you know how rare those are? A puckett popped up on ebay a while ago and it ended at over $700 which was way out of my range. I had never seen it before though thats why I wonder how many are out there.

Puckett wasn't in this set according to SCD, but this set is incredibly rare. I picked up the Ozzie some time ago and couldn't believe nobody had snagged the Gwynn and that is why I made it known. The Ozzie Smith is different on both the back and front. It was one of those finds that make you hold your breath until it shows up. Beckett doesn't place these cards on their checklist so people don't know about them but SCD has had them in their catalogue forever (or at least it is in there some years).

There are six cards that make up the set. Here is the set description from the Standard Catalog:

These cards were produced and distributed to hobby dealers to give them a preview of Ultra's second year offering, including the Award Winners and Tony Gwynn inserts. Cards are virtually identical to the issued versions except for a white oval on back which has "1992/ PRE-PRODUCTION/SAMPLE" notice printed in black. Each card (except the Gwynn) can also be found in a version with no card number on back; they are worth a small premium over the numbered promos.

#118 Todd Van Poppel
#180 Rey Sanchez
#271 Ozzie Smith
#288 Royce Clayton
#6/25 Roger Clemens (Award Winners)
#2/10 Tony Gwynn

I'm happy I was able to direct gwynn545314u to this card.
Here is what the Ozzie looks like next to the regular card:

Yes, quite different. No foil for one thing. Then a mixture of the final pictures:

Thanks for the info. The Puckett that was on ebay was the just the regular fleer set from 1992 and not the ultra set. That would explain it not being on the checklist. I wish I would have saved the auction so I could show a pic. The biggest difference between the regular card and the sample was that the sample was purple and not green. It was a cool card but it went for a crazy price.

Great card! The MLB logos are missing from the back as well. There is nothing like discovering a new card for the player collection that is almost 20 years old. I have a feeling this one will end up being one of your favorites because you aren't likely to see it again. Congrats.

Finally picked this card up after years and years and years of looking. It is funny because this set seems to be easy for some player collectors but it was unbelievably difficult for me.

Real sweet, nice pick-up!

Speaking of cards which I've found problems picking up are the 1993 Upper Deck Gold Hologram series. Most people don't know to look at the back of the card and see if the small hologram in the corner of the card is gold or silver. I've been looking for #43 which has Belle, Alomar Jr., Thome, Loften, and Baerga.
