Sweet card, but WOW!!!

I just hope the card is a grand finale for the winner's sake. The first scan in the auction doesn't look like a Grand Finale to me. And the other scans are too vague to tell in my opinion.
you can tell in the 3rd scan. it is the real deal. nice card.

Speaking of cards which I've found problems picking up are the 1993 Upper Deck Gold Hologram series. Most people don't know to look at the back of the card and see if the small hologram in the corner of the card is gold or silver. I've been looking for #43 which has Belle, Alomar Jr., Thome, Loften, and Baerga.

If I ever get the chance and find a 92 and 93 set for sale, I'll certainly buy them both. I figure if I can get the one or two cards I am still lacking, I can at least make a small amount of my money back helping the other player collectors on here. The rest I'll just hold onto and maybe try to finish the set again as I find the cards I got rid of helping others out.

Those 1993 UD gold holograms are strange because you go months without seeing them and then they run hot on Ebay for awhile. I think you're looking for #45. Hang in there it'll show up. Once you get it post a scan, Ozzie had one of those multiple player cards this year as well.

Thanks! I know it'll show it's head eventually lol... whenever I see it show up on eBay (the card in general) I always PM the seller to ask what color the hologram is on the back because I'm sure the normal eBayer might not even know there are two versions, etc.[/quote]

Careful doing that. Not that they'd really be able to charge you a large premium seeing as how these aren't worth that much more than the regular versions. But I have asked sellers questions regarding foil color and things like that on cards and I always get answers. Then the inevitable "Why do you ask". Might cost you more money.

Back in 93/94, I was at a Pamida, and someone had opened a 93 UD set. I went over and looked and it was the Gold set. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to grab it at the time. :^( Stupid teenager!

I have two cracked 1993 Gold Hologram sets. One has been pretty picked through, the other is only missing the Jeter.

If anyone wants to buy your guy(s) let me know.

Anyone know the "supposed" rarity of the Gold vs. regular hologram in 1993 Upper Deck? Was it an intentional limited edition print run or more of an error type of set?

I was under the impression that the golds were from factory sets. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

There was one gold hologram set per HOBBY factory case. I believe the cases were 20 or 24 ct sets. More than likely there are a bunch sitting in private collections factory sealed waiting to be discovered.

1992 Upper Deck: All factory sets have gold holograms
1993 Upper Deck: 1 set per hobby case (20 sets) have gold holograms

So to recap, 5% (1 in 20) of the factory sealed sets had the gold hologram. However, true rarity would be much rarer because 100% of opened card packs had the normal hologram. Is that correct?

Sounds about right. I'd even add that even if somebody were to crack their sealed set and notice the gold hologram, they may not want to break it up into singles. Makes it difficult for player collectors.

Truth be told, they aren't that hard to come across. The hardest part is finding any one particular card. That in itself can be a grueling task even for a base card from a base set. I searched for 3 years for a copy of a Jerry Stackhouse base card. I needed one for a set I was trying to complete and one for my PC of him. Luckily I found a guy who had two of them and promptly purchased them on the spot. And it was nothing special. Just a royal pain to find.

With the large amount of production of these cards, while still a limited run, I'd say there are plenty out there.
