Okay guys, these threads have had no historical influence on '90s inserts... :benson:

Just because something is cheaper today doesn't mean there weren't amazingly unprecedented spikes on cards being coveted on these threads.

That stupid Black Gold Winner as the most recent example.
Long before i even knew of this web site, i put a bid on a the 94 black gold, it sold for $185. That was 2008.

This is actually one of the reasons I don't post very many things I am looking for here. I enjoy looking and I also enjoy posting scans of stuff I am able to snag. But I've even stopped doing that as much because there are other Bagwell collectors here and also other player collectors who don't happen to have the cards from that set yet and I'm not doing much but adding fuel to the fire by showing mine off or telling people I need any particular card. I really believe this board and it's threads have more influence than people believe. I know that a few years ago, I had no problem finding good deals on 90's inserts. Even Green Crusades could be had for under $10 a pop. Now even a crappy player will cost you what...$20+? I was lucky enough to get a nice chunk of stuff before it started getting popular again. And I'll say that if this board's influence isn't as great as I believe it to be, the timing was awfully damn odd when it came to prices shooting through the roof.

Oh...and btw, it never fails a poster will come on here and talk about a particular card or set being rare etc., etc., and lo and behold, what do I see? Said poster selling said cards on ebay. Or people outbidding you on a card of your player just to wait a month or so and try to sell it to you at double the price they paid. Yeah...no thanks.

In other news...awesome find by your buddy Eddie. I remember our conversation about that card but damn, I didn't know it was a $500 card!

Considering the price for which this ended: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 024wt_1378

I think I made out fairly well: http://www.ebay.com/itm/360407394836?ss ... 641wt_1144

Wow - he knew enough to know it was worth big bucks, but didn't check ended listings?

Great buy! Looks like that's for your PC?

93 isn't anything what 94 is.

Still a good deal.

BTW, for anyone that cares. After I sold the Jordan insert for $500, I receive an offer via email for $1000.

Yeah. Called my friend I was selling it for.

BTW, he said he would have been happy with $100 after fees. HAHA!

Can't believe I'm this far behind on these but this is only my third platinum medallion I've obtained.

The 99s are my favorite. I used to have about 75% of the 98-99 ultra basketball platinum set. Sold them off a few years ago.

1999 Ultra was the first real wax box I ever really opened. I remember going to my first show to get it and all the hype around the JD Drew RC.

I still want to go for the master set but I think the Platinums will just be too much of a pain.

Good times!

Wow, great stuff. I really need to start stepping my Gwynn game up. What's your favorite/most rare Gwynn card (outside of the Topps RC)?

Been grabbing these over the last year or so in an attempt to find a duplicate serial number. Something to note, 026 of 100 has a shadow of the print on the very bottom of the foil. It looks like it will be printing a 026 or 028 due the curvature of the silhouette on the 6. Definitely not a 7...is it common to print out of order?

It's likely that every card on the sheet was stamped 026, not that there was a single sheet with 100 Andruws on it; so it makes sense.
