I think we were talking more about our perception of the different patterns as player collectors - not actually trying to redefine inserts. Getting a pattern you don't already have of your guy is like getting an insert you didn't have yet, and we're willing to shell out a couple bucks to do it.

Married with cats. What else am I going to do? I was bummed to not win the McGwire Goin' Jake Artist's Proof or the 1995 Bowman Griffey that wasn't labeled as a refractor (ended up going for about the right price anyway). Also completed my goal of 9 Robb Thomas 1996 Pro Line Gold Autos to fill a binder page, so it was a great night!

Can someone explain how to tell if my 1997 Fleer Soaring Stars are Glowing? COMC isn't helping, the two Chippers listed as Glowing look different: http://www.checkoutmycards.com/Cards/Ba ... es/2150092" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The easiest way to tell is to check and see if you can see any stars clearly in the background. If the stars appear like they do on the right, it is not a glowing version. The left obviously in my scan is the glowing version. As for the COMC cards, both appear to be glowing versions, scans on the glowing versions aren't always consistent. Either way, I don't see any stars clearly visible in the background on either. Hope this helps!

I thought the glowing was with the stars, not without.

Are there glowing variations with or without stars as seen in this pic?

you have to have the cards in hand to tell. the scans reflect to much. the glowing is almost like a mirror black.

As Nosterbor said, it is easier to tell with them in hand. Scans don't always come out clear and sometimes don't capture the stars clearly in the background. As for the question about the stars, I am 100% sure the clear stars in the background are not the glowing. The cards without the clear stars are by far more rare to find. Beckett's description is not nearly descriptive enough to use. But based on the 10-20% of entire Soaring Stars run, I can say without a doubt the clear stars versions are way more abundant.

Oh, looking at the 4 Juans, the bottom left appears to be a Glowing version.

OK, that helps. Neither of my pickups yesterday were Glowing; both have very visible stars in the background. It was worth the risk for the 25¢ I paid per card!
