I found a few 1997 Fanfest tins. I still need an ARod. These guys are tough.

I feel sorry for people that shell out this kind of money and think they're really getting something scarce.

Even though some of those were back doored, there are what 60-70 at most? For a 97 Griffey with a run 100 or less, that was a great price.

Actually, I don't see any print lines on that one... that alone might make it worth it

Either way you got a rare card. There is actually 3 versions of that card the mirror (only the A.L. side), foil Ripken and Foil Jones all 3 are very tough and the 2 red versions are tough also very rarely come up for sale..

These dont jump out at you as they are not listed in the guides right. It says # to 25
and thats not true the cards are not machine numbered so you may have scored big time.
I wished he would have listed a Griffey

I'm the sucker who shelled out the money for the Griffey & Jeter 1997 Mirror Gold cards that were listed last night. I knew there were more than 30 printed. In fact, I recall a picture on this website showing about 50 Tony Clark 1997 Mirror Gold cards. But, even though there are more than 30, it is still a tough card. In addition, it just looks awesome and that's the whole point of collecting these cards. If the cards look as good in person as they do in the scans, I'll be happy.

N.L side can be mirror too--I think there are only 1 version of the mirror card, and the mirror side is the front (ie, the side with the card number and pinnacle copyright info is not mirror)

Piazza mirror (NL) / I. Rod regular

Pedro mirror (AL) / Nomo regular

Really?? Wow that is news to me... So does that mean there is 4 versions of the Ripken?
I guess what I am asking is there a Jones mirror Ripken non mirror gold?
Judging by the scan yours is a mirror becasue it almost looks like the non mirror gold is darker or am I just seeing things? BTW terrific scans!!

No, it is a matter of which player is pictured on the front side.....most happen to be AL players. Piazza is seen on the front and does not have a version with him on the back.

You're sitting on a small gold mine there. Where did you locate these? Was there a Thomas in the lot? I've still only seen one Frank.

Glad you knew what you were getting! Looks like both cards don't have print lines? Post 'em when you get 'em. Now I'm just jealous I don't have $300 to drop on singles!

Speaking of card issues that were backdoored and have major print line issues... I was studying 1997 Donruss Limited Exposure this weekend when considering buying a Bagwell Star Factor Limited Exposure. I was really surprised that the book value was just $15 considering the announced print run was no more than 40. Then I found on baseballcardpedia the concerns about a bunch being backdoored. I also found it odd that Donruss announced the print run of Star Factor, but did not announce for the allegedly even more scarce Unlimiteds. Also, why don't any of them look as cool as the Frank Thomas Star Factor Promo? All these questions just have me wanting to avoid them now. Plus I hate print lines :geek:

They look really similar...I mean very few differences, less the banner and a few cropping tweaks. I've owned and seen a few of the pack issued Thomases and all of them have had refractor lines.

Now the '98 sample was awesome. Similar tech to the '97 Unlimited Talents (both have the star embossing).

Thanks! I was referring to the 98 and didn't realize it wasn't part of the 97 issue. Did any 1998s get backdoored like with Select?

Sweet find, are the ones in the picture the only ones you found this time around? I still have yet to see an Andruw! Any back story of where these came from?

Whatchu buyin Bagwell cards for?

Nah...a year ago or so Wolverine had like 10 gillion of these things and they can still be found really easily. To the point where he listed them so much, they were getting maybe one bid at $0.99 and that was it. I picked mine up super cheap(both the unlimited and star factor). There has to be more than 40 out there seeing as how I am pretty sure(n1astrosfan1 and Calfas may be able to provide better estimates) Wolverine had coughed up at least 20 or so of Bagwell, in total, week after week. Not sure what kind of quantities other players were trickled out in but if Bagwell was any indicator...there must be a ton of these things believed to be in existence. Otherwise, I really think someone would have purchased them all and sat on them. But the quantity I was seeing was just too crazy. He also had an ish load of the Pinnacle Inside Diamond Club(edition?) cards too. I mean a lot. Must have purchased someone's back door stash.

Picked these up for $3.25 at my first card show since probably 1998. Needed the McGwire for my set in progress and thought I'd never find it for a fair price. That Griffey might be my favorite pattern from 98 Tek.

This one seller had a TON of great stuff for super cheap, but I felt like I had to hurry and missed a bunch of goodies. I left a Roger Clemens 2003 UD 40-man rainbow for $3 and am regretting it.
