I voted for the 2nd option as I dont know have a real steady job(18) but have had to make some chanhes. I also own stocks and have watched them tumble in the last 2 months. Im trying to cut back on buying but its very hard not to buy when prices are so low so started cutting other unneccessary items. Ive also been effected as my dad is a mortgagge broker and makes jack S***. We have lost 250K and only continuing to drop. Were looking to move etcso between the 2 I have been affected by the economy in one shape or another

For those of you listening to the news (any and all including Fox), I don't understand why they are saying that economists say that raising taxes is the wrong thing to do. I have taken Macroecon and recieved an A (not bragging but 14% of roughly 400 students recieved an A. Figured I would say that to let everyone know that I am somewhat credible and not just pulling stuff out of my ****).

I would say an A in an Econ class makes you VERY credible

The media is saying that taxes are evil. Politicians are saying taxes are evil. Let me put this in simple terms: the raising of taxes reduces dispoable income for everyone. With less income (or capital for businesses), spending decreaeses, saving increases, and fear is everywhere. Companies can't hire people. Companies can't invest in research and development. Companies can't invest in expansive measures such as new businesses, new equipment, new patents, etc. The economy shuts down, unemployment increases, inventories rise, production slows down. More taxes act as a restrictor plate on a race car. The engine is the economy, the taxes is the restrictor plate. The taxes (restrictor plate) jokes the economy (engine).

Thank you for putting this in such simple terms for us. Clearly, you earned that A.

On a sidenote, I think it's funny that admist this economic crisis, the democrats and media have nothing better to do than to try and destroy Rush Limbaugh. I thought they had a problem to fix. I guess it just confirms that the left is threatened by a highschool dropout.

The media never has anything better to do than beat a non-story into the ground. And the Democrats? Are you really saying they are doing nothing right now? I bet you'd love it if that were actually the case.

3. Where did I say the Dems are doing nothing. Anyone with a brain could come to the conclusion that I think they are doing the wrong things, but an A in econ is a childish argument that gives me no credibility whatsoever. Cheers!!

edit: wait, I thought I got an A. Is it an A or an F?

edit #2: still waiting for clarification

1&2. You're welcome. Keep up the good work.
3. I don't really understand the bolded part. I can just say that the actual law-making Dems do actually have a lot of better things to do than bother with Rush, and they seem to be doing them. I can see that you clearly disagree with them. Maybe none of them ever got an A in econ.

It's a little naive to think that any job isn't possibly effected at some point. Granted certain ones are less prone to cutbacks, but even so it can happen. I know of people in Michigan that were teachers that lost jobs. When everyone moves away from a city because the major plant in town closes you don't need as many teachers.

Fair enough, I would also like to keep this non hostile. Here is a sequence of recent events:

1. After the election, Limbaugh says that he hopes Obama fails and he clearly outlines why. He didn't say he wants the country to fail, he said he wants the country to succeed, and the only way this is to happen is if Obamas policies fail.

2. This comment gets media attention, but it doesn't go very far.

3. In Janurary Limbaugh met with Hannity on the Fox News Channel for an interview, and Limbaugh repeated his "Obama to fail comments" for clarification. (video from Fox)

[youtube:2koluteh]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4YcwI4NlKA[/youtube:2koluteh]

4. February, the media acknowledge Limbaughs comments and are trying to paint him as the face of the GOP because such "discusting" comments could destroy the Republicans (video from CNN)

[youtube:2koluteh]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGh33rkL-3g[/youtube:2koluteh]

5. Late February, Rush Limbaugh attends CPAC and gives a speech to stimulate the conservative movement (not republican movement) and he reiterates his comments. Please listen to these videos. If you have an agenda towards a particular person without even hearing their ideas, then shame on you.

[youtube:2koluteh]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r84TQuiNmrU[/youtube:2koluteh]

6. February-March. James Carville took the liberty to call the White House , specifically Rama Emanuel, every morning to continue attacking Rush Limbaugh.

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/05/limbaugh/

7. March 4, Carville denies the allegations...obviously.

I will repeat what I said in an earlier post: this Limbaugh crap is a non-story that the media is flogging. Of course Carville and Begala are trying to use it, they are politically driven hacks. The actual lawmakers appear to be largely steering clear of it, as they should. From what I can see, this White House is itself driven by policy more than politics (whatever any of us may think of those policies).

They've heard too much from the other "news" outlets, John Stewart, Little Stevie Colbert, Matthews, Olbermann and Obama to ever trust little old Limbaugh....or Fox News.

I see Limbaugh in the same light as Stewart, Colbert, Matthews and Olbermann....but while Rush does go over the top...and over the edge a lot, he's not even half as crazy as the other guys I mention.

I'm not a Rush fan....
I do like O'Reilly but he's a blowhard.
I like Hannity.....

but the best show on Fox is Red-Eye :D

And in my personal, meaningless opinion, I think that the White House policies to fixing this economy are 100% dead wrong.

I will even go as far as saying something bad about Bush :o . The stimulus package last February, was a disaster, a waste of money, another deficit increase. When, oh when, in the history of this nation, has a stimulus ever worked? It hasn't. Leave the stimuli for biological responses because they don't work in economics (unless decreasing taxes is considered a stimulus), especially $785B to meaningless pet projects. To those who think that they should have given the money to all the citizens. Again, that wouldn't work. Everyone getting $100,000 would do absolutely nothing to change the class that each citizen is in. Your still ahead of this guy and your still behind that guy. The amount of inflation would be rediculous. Just look at what the US treasury does. If they increase the money supply by purchasing T bills, they increase inflation. Your money would be worth essentially nothing. The total value of your money after the $100,000 distribution would equal the total value of your money before inflation. A big stimulus by giving everyone a check would do the same thing.

I love Rush, the guy is a Reaganite. I absolutely can't stand O'Reilley. He's just, well loud. I'm a big Hannity guy too. He's nice, he's quiet, but he is a bit redundant from time to time. But all three of these guys are better than this guy...

This is why their ratings are tanked. I am watching MSNBC videos and they are still crucifying Bush. They can't report news now. They have no substance. They can just attack people and hope that their ratings increase.

OH!, you came so close to saying something I could agree with; then you had to qualify it with some bias.

Of course Rush is the same as Jon Stewart and the like. Really, there is no problem with Rush and his opinions. It's the people that think he telling them facts. I love how Rush gets on Obama and the "Obamites" in thier cult. It's like Rush doesn't hear his own fans when they call in. They slobber over him and placate his ego as bad or worse than anyone else anywhere.

But this is also why i agree that Rush saying he "wants Obama to fail" (which he didn't say and was very good at qualifying what he did say) is not a big deal. To paraphrase the only Republican with the nutsack to stand up to Rush, Gov. Schwarzenager, "Rush doesn't matter." At the end of the day, Rush don't decide ****. He's an entertainer, NOTHING MORE. anyone who thinks Rush, Stewart, O'Reilly, Colbert, Hannity or Olberman are newsmen is a complete idiot. They get paid for their entertaining opinions, NOT the news. Those hacks wouldn't know how to report the news if they were locked in study-hall at Northwestern, Columbia, Berkley, or Wisconsin.
