This may confound things a bit, but could we offer something new up without taking anything? Might be hard to keep track of but I'd love to randomly offer some things up without having to take anything because my collection is so specific that it is unlikely I'd ever have anything to take.

Looking up! Way to go, guys!

As far as "banning for value" - no. That will never happen, and anyone fighting tooth and nail over people not puting up "equal value" are doing so for a moot point. In a perfect world, all things would be valued equally... however, this is about giving. So, despite what someone "claims" - as long as they are giving up something that is of SOME substance then it's alright.

Now, if I find any claimed cards on eBay or if any are pointed out to me being traded here or on another site... I may not take very kindly to it. No one should claim anything tha they don't plan on keeping.

This is a good opportunity to get creative too. Maybe you don't have a card equal in value, but you have an oddball rarity, a card with a tough grade, a SSP, or something of the like that would still be important to another person.

I say if you post something put a random phase as your "take it" saying. Then you can tell who is taking your item and not another. Just an idea and the sayings can be funny.

If the thread comes to a standstill maybe you could offer to "add" what you would like to the lot so it becomes a more attractive option for someone to take.

This is totally unrelated to FCB, but I figured I should share my story somewhere. I recently decided I was going to try and put together the Eric LeGrand Topps Chrome rainbow, and I made a post over on blowout saying that I was trying to put together the rainbow. I figured because he's the only person to ever be featured on a massively produced sports card and he is in a wheelchair it was my job to try and put it together. Fast-forward four days after my initial post and I had easily acquired all but three of the cards (gold refractor, red refractor and super) when Houdini pulled the super in a group break. I sent the person who had Tampa Bay a private message letting him know I was trying to put together the rainbow. He told me he was going to put it on eBay, unfortunately it was the wrong time of the month but we worked out a deal where I could bid and pay later. The day came where he placed it on the bay and within the hour it was over $91. Frankly, I simply don't have the kind of money for my personal collection that it probably would have sold for; I have a limited income and thereby supplement it with cards I can flip, unfortunately this hobby has turned into a job. All of a sudden, it wasn't on eBay anymore and I get a private message asking me for my address. After a few inquisitive messages back-and-forth I was informed that he was just going to give it to me, with the only condition that I paid it forward. Needless to say, I plan to do so in spades. I would like to participate in this somehow, but I do not want to receive anything in return.

I know it really isn't much, but hopefully this Pirates card of one of their most promising prospects can go to someone in a similar situation.

I am thoroughly interested in this project, especially after reading all 60+ (yes, 60+) pages on the collector's universe website.

If you haven't at least read the first post in that thread, I suggest that you do (it is posed on page 1 or 2 of this thread).

There were plenty of concerns from people over what value to give, if you should match the value of the card you take (I saw quite a few lots taken that were probably $150-200 in value, yet that would severely limit the amount of people who could participate). In the end, people were put in their place and told to realize this is supposed to be a kind gesture of getting something (or multiple things, if you claim a lot) you want for your collection and then putting something out there that you have that someone else may or may not want. I saw many lots/cards I had no interest in, yet there were many others that I would have had a TON of interest in (HoFer auto'ed rookie cards, just plain ol' awesome HoFer autos, awesome patches, autoed baseball and hockey pucks, sweet graded vintage, authenticated autographs, giant lots that had a few very well priced cards PLUS a ton of inserts and add ons).

If you are truly going to hop in to the thread and complain about someone not putting back the value that they took out, you should realize this is, as I see it, a charitable type thing to do. You are giving something up, in essence for free, to someone who may not have had the opportunity to get said card/item of said player/players.

I think the only problem that may arise here on the boards, is that there is a very prospect heavy group here (as is seen by items 3 and 4), so it may actually stunt the progress of the thread somewhat at times, when no one wants prospects and the person putting the prospects out there doesn't have many non-prospect cards of perceived value.

tl;dr - Don't worry about value, worry about making someone's day/collection that much better, regardless of what you give/get.

Quick question. If I take a card, could I offer up lots in return? For example, I take a $25 card, could I post 5-10x $8 cards? I don't have much high end cards that aren't in my PC, but I have more autos/Refractors.

Seems like everything is getting sorted out nicely. I'm sure ill be jumping in at some point.

So far there have been some nice cards. Good job to those participating.

I'm really failing to see why we can't have more than one card up for grabs in the thread at one time? There's no reason someone can't say "I'll take the ***" card instead of just "I'll take it" when there's one up for grabs. That person can then PM the owner of said card to give them their address or "claim" the card. It's a free card. If someone gets their ******* in a bunch because someone else "claimed" the card before they did, they can be on their merry way and not participate.

it will get too confusing with multiple cards at once, its starts with one and then it supposed to stay in that order 1 after another

I apologize, it seems that my offering kind of derailed everything, I wanted to give something away without receiving something (for now) I probably should have just made my own thread.
