This thread has been Sociology 101. There have been three types of people interested in this thread:
1. The leach: Looking to take anything that might be of value and replace it with feces
2. The armchair QB: Never adds anything posititive to the thread but whines and complains about it
3. The champion: Paying it forward, not down, not backward. These posters went above and beyond to make this a better thread

This thread has way too many 1's and 2's.

Spare me the Free To Good Home bullXXXX. Check the first post of this thread and then check to see what Mike or I got/asked for in return. I'll save you the time, nothing.

Thanks again @200lbhockeyplayer, you are the absolute best and apprecitate the work you did for this project. I just wish more members respected this board as much as I do.

Who do you collect, I'll check to see if I have something to send your way.

I've been involved twice, taken two Scott Rolen patch cards and replaced them with cards that I thought were improvments and cards that people could add to a PC. I've kept out of the politics of this, and intend to stay out of it. I feel that there is no way to keep this going smoothly, some people who truly will cherish an offered card might not be able to offer something better; but they are the type of people I think we set this out for. Every once in a while a card is going to be a flop; and I hope that going forward one of us with the means to do so will fall on that grenade and offer up something nice. Hell, claim it and put it on the free to a good home thread if you think that's where it belongs. Making people feel bad for what they have to offer isn't the way to build up a community, helping each other is.

Do good things and good things will happen for you.

Here is my proposal for PIF 2.0

1. We will restart the thread with a new card I will provide.

2. Each card will be up for one week, starting on Monday. Each user will have the opportunity to request the card by explaining why the card will fit into his or her collection and offering a card to be offered the following week. User claims must be posted by Friday 11:59 pm.

3. A PIF Committee will select the recipient of the card being given away by majority vote of the PIF committee. The winner will be announced each weekend. The criteria used to determine the recipient of that week's PIF card are: (a) the generosity the claimant exhibits in the card he or she offers to give away the following week, and (b) the degree to which the card being claimed is a fit in the member's collection.

4. The PIF selection committee will consist each week of the person offering that week's card and three or four other permanent committee members. I suggest making jbhofmann and alexs64 part of the selection committee along with my fellow moderator A_Pharis (or myself if he declines). The person awarded the PIF card will then serve on the selection committee for the card he or she is giving away.

5. If no FCB member is selected by the committee to receive the weekly PIF card, the user offering the card may: (a) select a new card to offer that is approved by a majority of the permanent members of the PIF committee, (b) add an additional card to his or her PIF giveaway each subsequent week (eBay value of at least $5), or (c) trade the card to a permanent PIF committee member who will offer an alternate card approved by the owner of the unclaimed card and a majority of the other permanent members of the PIF committee.

6. A FCB user who does not send a card as promised in the PIF thread violates FCB Term of Service #3 and is subject to suspension or banning.

That's my proposal for PIF 2.0, and I think if we go about things this way, this thread can achieve its purpose. What say the users of FCB?

------OFFICIAL PAY-IT-FORWARD THREAD (Card Posted)-----------

For the most part I really like that. I would even be interested in playing a bigger role. The only thing I don't like is the 1-week waiting period. I would say 36 hours TOPS. I don't know what everyone else's stance on that would be but like I said, everything else sounds great!

Plus, I want to give also...so I'm just waiting for my chance a PC item. I love this thread and I wish everyone had the best intentions as the next person. I do enjoy the fact that everyone wants to give but I also think the same when people are talking about the "pay it forward" thread being compared to the "free to good home" thread. I like both threads but they definitely have different purposes IMO.

I like the Idea and the rules involved but not the time frame 1 week seems like a long time to wait between cards then if nobody claims it can be 2 weeks. I think 3 days would be good and give members enough time to get their request in.

James52411 - That sounds great. The only concern I would have is the wait time. While it would give everyone ample time to see what has been posted, 3 days, as previously mentioned, should be long enough.

Yes a week seems long but I think the purpose it to have it be an easy clear timeline and it's like 'during the week a card(s) is up for claiming' and 'on weekends the card(s) are awarded' and this is repeated week after week... I think the only time you get into an issue is if the item isn't claimed, then you're waiting two weeks to award the card(s) but I think this will be avoided given the strict committee and how they determine if someone can PIF or not... I doubt they'd let someone PIF if they had sh!t to offer up lol

Otherwise, very cool idea with PIF 2.0

The weekly format is, as MansGame surmised, designed to allow the entire FCB community a chance to try and "pay it forward" each week. Also, consider that although the card up for grabs will change weekly, there should be multiple great cards being offered by members throughout each new week. The newness of the cards being offered will provide the reason for members to keep checking out the thread.

To many rules. I see favoritism coming out of it. I don't think I'm going to participate any more.

Not that I matter...but to me it should be up to the "giver" as to whether or not it's an acceptable swap.

Doesn't have to be even money of close...but in the ballpark.

And the multi card lots water it down a lot. All of us have countless $5-10 cards...and in virtually zero reality does a place exist where 5 $10 cards equal one $50 card.

But again...handle as you all wish.

I agree that the person giving away the card should be able to choose, maybe have all interested parties post what they will be putting up next and then the giver can choose who gets the card and which card will replace theirs. the whole weeks time frame will cause people to lose interest IMO

I am proposing the panel approach because thus far, people haven't been enforcing de-facto requirement that the person claiming the card actually "pay it forward." Also, I want to prevent the thread from derailing. However, if members make good decisions in paying it forward, the panel would not be necessary.

Also, contrary to what was said above, the panel approach should prevent the system from being gamed. The current PIF thread has resulted in rampant gaming of the system by virtue of members "taking it in" rather than "paying it forward."

This is just my modest proposal. If the community wants to alter it (which is reasonable) or continue in the current trajectory (unreasonable), that's what will obviously end up happening.

I vote for your system but maybe let the giver tell the panel who he would choose first and then you guys can ok or override his choice, and I would vote for 3 days as apposed to a week.

Re: ------OFFICIAL PAY-IT-FORWARD THREAD (Card Posted)-----------

Another alternative is to conduct a poll where members vote for the person who will receive the card. The person offering the card would select the top 3 offers and the community would make the final call. Just brainstorming here...
