Today's photo features an unnamed Red Sox player diving for the plate against an unknown team. The details are not all that important because there is so much going in this photo I think I spent about 10 minutes looking at it. We see the catcher's mask and hat thrown to the ground in anticipation of the play at the plate. We see the umpire about to scream his decision about the play that happened right in front of him. We see the runner stretching to touch home and we see photographers, on the field waiting to capture the action (remember, no telephoto lenses back then...photographers were literally part of the action).

There is so much happening here I hope you take the time to enjoy it.

Love this photo, also notice the bat down the third base line that he would have had to avoid. I think the runner was safe

No way to know if he got tagged or not, but I'd think from the posture of the catcher the ball arrived a shade too late. Awesome picture, regardless.

Photographers on the field is one of my favorite anachronisms. Look at old newsreels from the 30s and 40s and you can see half a dozen guys back around the on-deck circles or up the lines in front of the dugouts.
