Is it that hard to figure out. They either play 1B as a platoon and DH as a platoon. Remember VMART is out.

has nothing to do with small/big market

Mich Llitch is 1 of the richest owners in sports. Owns Red Wings as well and believe owner and founder of Little Caesers.

He is an old man 83, and wants to win a championship.

Cant buy a title ;)

at least he puts his money into the team, not like other OWNERS, mr. peter i suck angelos.

I wonder what this means for Castellanos future now. There's a good chance Cabrera goes back to 3rd after this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull another move with Castellanos as bait now.
I'm sorry, but there is almost 0 chance Miggy goes to 3rd. He would be awful there. I suppose you could try him over there, but that would be a big mistake IMO.

Something has to happen. No V-Mart then. Seems like a strange situation for the future. Actually maybe they are worried about V-Mart long term now because of his past knee issues plus his current injury on top.

That is exactly it.

I was going to post this, but wasn't sure who knew Illitch on here. The guy wants to win, period. I think VMart going down led to this signing, to be completely honest.

I think the better idea would have been grabbing Reyes for 6 years, because that would fill 2 of our biggest holes-SS, and we desperately need some speed. SS isn't necessarily a hole, but we could move Peralta to 3B. 3B is the issue, really.

I stand corrected. I completely forgot about VMart. This may in fact mean they might try Cabrera at 3B-goodness, that would be a mess. He would be horrible at 3B if you ask me. Especially with Peralta at SS, who doesn't exactly have a ton of range.

A better thought would be Miguel in LF-there is no way he could be worse than Delmon.

I think Fielder has a better chance of performing through the length of his contract than Reyes, though of course both have issues and only time will tell.

What I was thinking was move Cabrera to third for this year. Show Inge the door finally; trade V-Mart next year for a second basemen so the the Tiger free-up the DH spot. As of now they have three DH/1B's on the roster. So I was thinking trade V-Mart next year for a second basemen because they could get a good one because V-Mart would have a year left on his contract and fill the hole at second.

Then come late 2013 or 2014 Castellanos comes up to take over third and Cabby moves back to switching off 1B/DH with Fielder like they will this year.

That almost has to be the plan for 2012. Figure out 2013 when it gets here. VMart is owed $13m in 2013 and $12m in 2014. It's also worth remembering the Tigers moved Cabrera off 3B back in 2006 because he was a disaster.

Say it ain't so Joe...the Rangers should have ponied up for him. I am now sad.

For that price they can have him. Especially after 3-4 years when we are going to have to reload the team.

If Austin Jackson can stop striking out (a big if) he's gonna score a crazy amount of runs.

I really hope they hit 3-4 though, for me there was just no way to justify VMart and Miggy losing ABs last season hitting 4-5.

When was the last time a tandem got 1000 at bats of 1.000 OPS? Ortiz and Ramirez?

Wow The Tigers are going to be awesome this year. The rotation should be great and now adding another huge bat in the heart of the lineup. Man Im excited for this season.

For you Brewers fans, they will now receive the Tigers' 1st round pick this year (#27 overall), as well as a Sandwich pick (#38).

I'm glad he went to a team I don't hate, and the extra draft picks will be nice.

If anybody is looking for a Prospect Premieres BGS 9.5 hit me up.

The AL is going to be filthy this year. Six teams could legitimately win 95+ games if everything goes right: the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Tigers, Rangers, and Angels.

This could turn out bad. Miggy ranked 4th worst 1b in baseball last year costing his team 16 runs. Fielder was #6 costing his team 15 runs. Granted those two will produce runs, but how much more than Miggy & Vmart did? Fielder has the edge in hr power over Vmart, but his 106 rbi avg over last three yrs is only 3 more than Vmart had in 2011 along with a .330 avg. In 2013 when Miggy is bobbling grounders and throwing wild rockets at Fielder what will be said then? Fielder has a hard enough time playing 1b with avg 3b guys. Could be a disaster in the making. Sure may score runs, but how many will those two give up in the process? I'd love to blast liners to the left side of that infield in 2013. Miggy and Peralta with Fielder at first!! Lol

And in regards to Castellanos, he's 19 yrs old and should only be in High-A this year.

I know you can't believe everything you hear. However, they are saying on the Detroit radio that Leyland has been pushing Cabrera prior to this to become a better fielder. Saying that you don't want to only be known as a good hitter. Also, Leyland was already concerned with their situation if they made the WS with not having a good spot for both V-Mart and Cabrera in the field. So he was encouraging Cabrera to become better in the field to play 3rd.

They say Cabrera was willing and ready to challenge himself at 3rd. Also, supposedly they are still looking at Cespedes, and a one year DH.

Hopefully, their D won't be legendary bad. I don't have high hopes though.

Oh, and Turner is likely to be their 5th SP according to the CBS sports interview on the radio they had about all this.
