I had a feeling the Tigers were serious about Fielder. Dombrowski had been very quiet lately. Too quiet for a team that needed to make moves at the end of January. I thought maybe he would wait to see how Cespedes works out before they got serious with Fielder.

Yes, actually they are.

It looks like a lot of BIN/BO are ending with an offer being accepted.

yea I had my fielder gold ref auto up at $450 BIN/BO and only 1 person made an offer but we agreed at $345. I wouldn't say a crazy amount of BIN's are being hit. This is the norm for any big player signing.

This has become the saddest day of my baseball fandom. BY FAR. I can't even begin to say how disapointed I am in the Brewers organization for letting it get to this. Yes, I knew it was a likely possibility. The Twins kept Mauer and Morneau, the money was there. Attanasio blew it. Melvin, Aramis Ramirez isn't Prince Fielder. All of the good feelings of last years Brewers season are gone.

As a Milwaukee fan, this is 100 times worse than when the Bucks traded away my "other" favorite player in Ray Allen.
I don't think I would've been able to handle it if Prince stayed in the NL.

And for all of you who make jokes about his weight, he has "missed" 13 games the last 6 years.

The Brewers said months ago they weren't bringing him back and were never mentioned among the teams in contention, so I really can't see how this is a shock for you.

Stupid, from one small market team to another.

Um, Detriot is not a small market.

LMAO!! Smaller than, NY, LA, and Chicago and anything in PA. I am just saying, Chrysler 300 commercials do not make Detroit a large market.

Detriot>Pittsburg.

Detriot is the 8th largest baseball market. Milwaukee is the smallest. Your statement that he's going from one small market to another is factually incorrect. By a lot.

Actually 12th largest with a baseball team.

1) New York-Newark-Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA - 21,976,224
2) Los Angeles-Long Beach-Riverside, CA - 17,775,984
3) Chicago-Naperville-Michigan City, IL-IN-WI - 9,725,317
4) Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia, DC-MD-VA-WV - 8,211,213
5) Boston-Worcester-Manchester, MA-RI-NH - 7,465,634
6) San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA - 7,228,948
7) Philadelphia-Camden-Vineland, PA-NJ-DE-MD - 6,382,714
8) Dallas-Fort Worth, TX - 6,359,758
9) Houston-Baytown-Huntsville, TX - 5,641,077
10) Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville, GA-AL - 5,478,667
11) Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Miami Beach, FL - 5,463,857
12) Detroit-Warren-Flint, MI - 5,410,014

You forgot Toronto. Greater Toronto area population was 5.7 million in 2011.

and calling Detroit a small market is laughable, if you are going by population alone, Detroit would be in the top 6 or so.

Wow, 9 years.....yikes. He is not likely the player I would sign for 9 years. Is this now the longest contract in baseball?

Everyone knows he's fat. Being fat and being injury prone are two different things. I don't like huge long contracts myself. However, he's only 27 and he's never had injury issues. Brewers fans are so upset because they know what they will be missing. Everyone else is just sad they didn't sign him.

Between Fielder and Pujols, the Pujols deal is more risky. He's four years older, has had recent injury problems, and it's a year longer.

It's funny how the media is critical of this deal. If this were NYY or BOS they would be talking about how they were making bold moves, and stepping up. Ilitch is one of the richest owners. I don't know why they always talk like they have a limited payroll.

So you'd rather every possible star free agent continue to go to the big markets? I'm tired of that trend, I'd like to see the talent distributed a bit more.

Thome & Dye in 2006.

Last time, not counting Ramirez & Ortiz, was Pujols & Edmonds & Rolen in 2004.

I wonder what this means for Castellanos future now. There's a good chance Cabrera goes back to 3rd after this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull another move with Castellanos as bait now.

What I was thinking was move Cabrera to third for this year. Show Inge the door finally; trade V-Mart next year for a second basemen so the the Tiger free-up the DH spot. As of now they have three DH/1B's on the roster. So I was thinking trade V-Mart next year for a second basemen because they could get a good one because V-Mart would have a year left on his contract and fill the hole at second.

Then come late 2013 or 2014 Castellanos comes up to take over third and Cabby moves back to switching off 1B/DH with Fielder like they will this year.

I know you can't believe everything you hear. However, they are saying on the Detroit radio that Leyland has been pushing Cabrera prior to this to become a better fielder. Saying that you don't want to only be known as a good hitter. Also, Leyland was already concerned with their situation if they made the WS with not having a good spot for both V-Mart and Cabrera in the field. So he was encouraging Cabrera to become better in the field to play 3rd.

They say Cabrera was willing and ready to challenge himself at 3rd. Also, supposedly they are still looking at Cespedes, and a one year DH.

Hopefully, their D won't be legendary bad. I don't have high hopes though.

Oh, and Turner is likely to be their 5th SP according to the CBS sports interview on the radio they had about all this.

Helps with my point a bit

Are you kidding me? He wouldn't have killed the team for the next decade with that contract. I have no problem moving on. He was a great Brewer but that time has passed

He's only missed 13 games because as incentive they give fielder 35 hotdogs before the game if he shows up.

I laughed. I admit it. It wasn't b/c of the joke, that was pretty weak. I laughed b/c of your timing.

I hear you, I would just rather see him play on TV more. I mean a larger market would secure that. I am not sure how many times I got to see the Tigers play on TV. I am just saying.

That article sums up DD's style. He literally never says he's interested. Yet we find out Cabrera has known for a week at least he'd be playing third and welcomes it. They were in on Fielder all along.
