This sucks for the Mariners. It's bad enough the Rangers have had back-to-back WS runs now the Angels have the best player plus the best prospect in the game and CJ Wilson.

I think these moves put a lot of pressure on the Mariners to get a deal done with Prince. While I dislike that move long-term, I think it's a necessity if they ever want to get out of the AL West cellar.

Congrats Angels fans. Start snapping up those Pujols rookies!

It’s funny; I thought I would be more pissed than I am. Since I heard the news I have started to reflect and the overwhelming emotion/reaction is gratitude, not anger. I truly feel privileged to have gotten to see him play for as long as I did for my team. He brought a rookie of the year, 3 MVP’s, 3 pennants, and 2 WS Championships to St. Louis, not to mention all of his charity work. He handled himself in a professional manner (most of the time), and he provided me personally with countless memories. I am most grateful to him and have a hard time faulting a man for not accepting a contract that was worth an estimated $50 million dollars more than the closest competitor.

Once STL picks their jaws up off the floor they are going to realize that they now have the financial availability to resign Wainwright to a long term deal and the rumor is that they are going after Jimmy Rollins.

Since no one's said it yet ---

ATTENTION: MR. SAM BANKS. PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THAT LEDGE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER REASONS FOR YOU TO LIVE. OFFHAND I CAN'T THINK OF ANY, BUT I'M SURE THERE MUST BE SOME.

(Look at the bright side. He'll still be wearing red and white.)

On the flipside, Jen (rainmanesq) must be on Cloud 9. Wonder where she's been lately.

Depending on what else happens this winter, the AL West could soon be the toughest division in baseball.

Now LAA & OAK in talks to bring Bailey to LAA for Trumbo and prospects. LOL biggest log jam at 1b in baseball. Maybe they take turns playing? If they land Bailey Walden losses job and LAA slaps the AL West in the face.

That is a major stretch even if Fielder goes to the Mariners. I think the NL and AL East still have that locked up.

This makes a TON of sense actually. The Angels wanted 2-3 more power arms in the pen, Walden-Bailey would be a sick 8th-9th inning combo. And Trumbo fits the A's perfectly. BUT, I wouldn't give up a whole lot more than Trumbo for him. DAMN the Angels are going to be good.

WOW

There are some reports that Boston was the 3rd team in on PUjols, and they had a deal worked out to send Adrian Gonzalez to the Cubs if Pujols signed with them.

Better beef up security first time he plays here because the best fans in baseball are pissed.

Us Cubs fans aren't THAT pissed! :D Yes, we would not have minded having him in our line-up, but we can get 2-3 other top free agents for the same amount of overall money, and we have more holes to fill than just 1B. Maybe we can trade for Morales or Trumbo now, sign Darvish, and work on other free agents.

Wow.

What I find most surprising is that this is the worst fit of the three teams for Pujols (stl is his home, Miami has the Latin culture). What that tells me is its all about money for Albert, which is fine, but its disappointing as a fan of the game of baseball to see him leaving stl for 25 million dollars. Sure it is a ton of money, but in the grand scheme of things is a very small amount of money to Albert Pujols.

Are you really suggesting Los Angeles doesn't have a Latino base? The cities name is in Spanish!
Anaheim? Sounds German to me ;) Just like San Diego.

Read this on twitter and got a good laugh:

"@adamrank: The Angels signing of Pujols is really part of a sign-and-trade deal that sends him back to St. Louis for the Rams."

Didn't see it coming. But, the Cardinals got Godfathered; the Angels gave him a offer he couldn't refuse. I wish him well and thank him for the time and performance he gave the fans in STL. My rationalization of it all is that the Cardinals will now have gotten Alberts best years on the cheap. Excited to see what this young crop of players can do.
