Sad day for Cardinals fans, and maybe even for baseball.

Makes me appreciate the guys who embraced one team for their entire careers, like Jeter, Gwynn, Brett and Schmidty to name a few

yep pedroia as well

and strasburg

Don't forget about Bryce Harper.

and ricky rubio

They should move Trumbo to third and have Morales DH. They still need to get rid of Mathis though. Roll him up and use him as BP, see how far Pujols can hit him out.

LA is a huge market so this is good for baseball

No, it's HORRIBLE for baseball.

We need to revert back to the good ole days, where players didn't switch teams, there was no DH, teams travelled by train, and Negros weren't allowed to play

Well, I guess Cardinals fans say that Albert took a money grab.....

Marlins offered Albert Pujols 10 years, $275 million!

I honestly believe the AL had something to do with this. Albert wants records and the DH is a great way he's going to do it.

Great career move for Pujols. The AL means that he can DH if his defensive skills deteriorate. Good move for him. He'll also have a great latino market in Southern California and great weather. Good luck Pujols - wish you could have stayed on the Cardinals, but this move makes $250M of sense if I were you.

Just posted this on FaceBook too.

Haven't been on FaceBook for 20 minutes total today, and I'm already fed up with the bitching of the Cardinals fans. Shut up, he's gone. We were good before him, we'll be good after him. NONE OF YOU complaining would turn down 250+ million dollars. NONE OF YOU. Does it suck for St. Louis and historically? Yes, but it's not the end of the world, so stop whining.

The fan base claims to be the best in baseball, well it's time to act like it.

Already fired the first shots on your facebook wall.

You're rational. I dig that.

I'm not reading through 7 pages of this *censor*.

To all Cardinals fans: you got to enjoy 10 years watching the best player in baseball. You also got two World Series titles. Please collectively stop whining and shut up. Thank you.[/quote:1epqxox8]

Seriously; ALL Cardinals fans.

Many are relieved the Cards are not on the hook for 10 years. Many on this board have said sad to see him go but thanks for the memories.

I don't think this move diminishes Pujols at all. He is going to the 2nd largest market in America (that happens to have a high latino population), he can DH as others have said and he can chase records. The Angel's showed they are committed to winning and after he wins a WS for Anaheim he will be a legend in two markets.
I am still surprised he left, but blame St. Louis. He wanted to be there and they didn't make it happen. Epic franchise fail.

What if 2011 is truly the start of his decline; only time will tell if him leaving is good or bad. Sad to see a All-time great leave but the club can now spend money in other directions.

I think trading Mathis to Toronto last Saturday took care of that concern for you.

Reminds me of when old MVP Mo Vauhn went to the Angels LOL.

It does diminish Pujols some, this is evidenced by the fact that this is the first thing everyone thinks of; he'll never be thought of the same way as Stan the Man for instance.

I call ******** on not being asked to match it. No way Lozano just said yes to LAA. Not a chance in hell that happened. Im pretty sure Mozaliek just lied to us.

lol Angels will regret this in 4 years. They better win the WS soon.

Hardly. Moreno is on the verge of locking up Fox Sports West to a $150 million per year deal WITH a small ownership share, mainly because of Pujols. From a $50 million per year deal to a $150 million per deal....that's a pretty decent bump. Add that to the increased jersey/ticket sales, market share stolen from Dodgers and Padres, increased national exposure, etc etc and the Angels most definitely will benefit from this deal.

Not saying he'll be a superstar forever though. Angels should get five years of superstar performance, three years of borderline star/above average performance, and two years of average performance.

If that is the case they will have done fabulously well (taking the TV money out of it and just looking from a baseball performance perspective.) More likely is 2-3 more great years, 2-3 good years, and then 4-6 years where he is in serious decline.
