Here's my take on it the Angels got Albert to sell seats nothing more if they win more then more seats are sold. This is every team owners goal the world series title is icing on the cake that even brings in even more revenue. The ROI on Pujols will be about 3 years all 250+ mill. The increased revenue he brings to marketing is enormous. Don't think they are too worried about it a 3-5 year window on Pujols in declining prime will still be beneficial to the team only if he declines to Adam Dunn numbers tomorrow will this hurt them but really is an old Pujols DH the last 3-5 years of the contract really going to hurt the team.
The flip side of the revenue for the cards was what increase do they get keeping Pujols there is no new money to gain they have marketed Pujols to death. Their ROI on 200 mill was going to be much longer and that is where they would have gotten into big problems down the road. While the negative ROI from losing Pujols might only be 1-2 years of lost revenue he brings.
It's is sad this is a business but look at as a business and everyone won. I would have preferred Albert stay and be a Card for life just for the novelty of it but realistically this is the what the game has evolved into.
