[quote="Greg Cleveland":19jq1ylz]That's just Moonoply money. As a Cardinals fan, I'd hate to see him go, but can't blame him to take that kind of offer. Kind of like when the Angels signed Torii Hunter. Hated to see Torii leave the Twins, but they made him an offer he couldn't refuse. If true, it'll really make the Prince Fielder sweepstakes interesting.

Mauer is getting $23m a year for 8 years.

Pujols is getting $25m a year for 10 years.

That's New Stadium Revenue money. And people are complaining about overspending because Joe's been hurt so much recently.

And it's already $46m in "stadium money" that has been thrown away. I guess that Pujols contract is being paid with "new Pujols money"

Pujols is going to have to lose a limb to make his contract look worse than Mauers. Pujols has been putting up numbers consistantly over his career. Mauer has had one great year in his career.[/quote:19jq1ylz]

I bet a lot of people clicked on this thread to read about Mauer's awful contract. Good thing you could help them out.

Wow.

What I find most surprising is that this is the worst fit of the three teams for Pujols (stl is his home, Miami has the Latin culture). What that tells me is its all about money for Albert, which is fine, but its disappointing as a fan of the game of baseball to see him leaving stl for 25 million dollars. Sure it is a ton of money, but in the grand scheme of things is a very small amount of money to Albert Pujols.

Welcome to sports. Virtually every free agent, in all sports, goes for the biggest payday. Pujols is the rule, not the exception.

I think this is terrible for baseball and for his collectibility in my opinion. Yea, he has put up phenomenal numbers and will continue to do so, but I think he should have remained a cardinal. Call me traditional, I like the HOF who remain with one team!

The Cardinals should have paid Albert whatever it took to keep him. This is the biggest mistake in the history of the organization. How do you let the best player of the last decade walk? I'd be pissed if I were a Cardinal fan. Talk about World Series hangover; you guys are going to look at your 2012 line-up and feel like you're in the movie 'Hangover'.
Prince may end up the consolation prize.

No.
No.
I don't see how offering 10 years/220 Million relates to "Let Walk."
Just disappointed.
Hangover? If you can look at our lineup and say that, you probably only casually follow baseball. #welcomebackWainwright
Don't want him.

Are you really suggesting Los Angeles doesn't have a Latino base? The cities name is in Spanish!

I don't think Prince would be willing to go to St Louis now, wouldn't there be too much pressure for him to handle from comparison??

As a Cardinals Fan I feel "LeBroned". I wished they would have paid him; yet I cant help to be interested to see how they move forward; ie Prince and Rollins

As a lifelong Cardinals fan I would like to thank Albert for his contributions to the team the last 11 years. That being said there is no way, no way, a man that is will be AT LEAST 32 when the season starts deserves a 10 year contract. This is a fresh wound and STL fans will be pissed for a while but they will settle and realize that they had the privilege of seeing one of the all-time greats during his prime. The vast majority of Cardinals’ fans will give him a standing ovation if he ever comes back to Busch Stadium.

I would be pissed if he took an offer that was slightly more than the Cards were offering but it wasn’t even close. The Angels wanted him and they were going to get him at any price.

Albert Pujols enters the HOF as a Cardinal, period.

At least now you can make jokes about his last name like the rest of us.

The Cardinals will receive the Angels' #19 pick in the 2012 draft as well as a supplemental choice.

I gotta believe the Cardinals make a strong push for Prince now, no?
If he only requires 5 years than I say go for it.Craig was great in the playoffs but he doesn't strike me as a long term solution.

I'm surprised MLB Network didn't do a "The Decision - Albert Pujols". ;)

I'm quite shocked at the news as I didn't realize the Angels were in the running for Albert. I do like it in the end as I"ll get to enjoy more of his games live as later in the evening is when I get a chance to chill out and watch MLB.TV on my roku.

Agreed. I guess the only way he would go in as an Angel is if he played all 10 years there and did more in Anaheim than he did in St. Louis, but I don't see that happening.

Also, I think Albert wanted 10 years and wanted to play in the AL. When he's too old to play the field, he'll have the DH and I believe he has his eyes set on some offensive records.

This just doesn't feel right to me. Time to sell my Pujols stash I guess, like I did with the LeBron stuff I had when he went to Miami. Pujols is still the best player in baseball, but he's clearly started the downturn. For him to not be in a Cardinals uniform is just awful for Cardinals fans and Pujols' legacy.

So first Magic Johnson screw up on Cardinals prospect Jordan Swaggerty elite autos, now wants to buy Dodgers. That pressure pushed Angels to sign Pujols and is screwing with Cardinals again. Lol

CJ Wilson going to LAA too. Wow 5 yrs $75 million

Excellent....Theo's plan is slowly falling into place. Next, Fielder is going to sign with the A's. The division is the Cubs to lose!
