Please bear with me a minute through a semi-long read
Some of you may know that I worked as a baseball editor for Topps from 2001-2002. Obviously, the content of the job was fantastic, and the people working right around me in Sports Marketing were great. However, overall the job was a crappy corporate cubicle job that, despite my love of baseball, I wasn't meant to do. I quit in 2002.
While I was there, I got some nice stuff (though probably not as much as one might imagine). I was always given a box of each product that I worked on, and our bosses would purchase boxes of competitor's products for us to rip so we knew what they were doing. I could also purchase some product (not the high end stuff) at reduced prices at the employee store. I even got there in time to get one of the 2001 Topps Employee sets, which I still have (though I didn't work on that set). Most of the stuff I took away from there I have kept for my PC, traded, or sold. Nothing really major, but it was a nice little severance in lieu of any actual monetary one.
One unique item that I got while there was a prototype for a set called Topps Performance Baseball. I have shown this card here before. Basically, in 2002 Topps wanted to get in on the gaming side of cards with a set that allowed collectors to use the cards in a one-to-one dice game, as well as scratch off a code on the back and use the cards to build an online fantasy team through Topps.com. I spent a long time creating a checklist for this set and debating with others about what rating each player should have. This all went to waste as the product got scrapped before actual production. However, during one production meeting, a couple of prototypes were thrown around. I asked if I could keep one, and here it is. Note that Ichiro played for Philly and had 69 HRs in 2001.
Now to the question: Do you think anyone is interested in purchasing this card? What could I get for it? I have no proof that it is a Topps-produced prototype except for my own word. Come to think of it, I don't even really have any proof that I actually worked there. So, if I wanted to sell this thing, how would I go about doing it?
Any comments or questions are appreciated.
