I know beckett list these as "beware of counterfeits" and I was wondering if anyone else with copies of these could check to see if these match up or if the serial numbers are 'off'.

Well it's nice to see that the serial number on my ref serial numbering is the same style as yours.

I'm guessing the 006/75 is fake. The reason being that it should say 06/75 seeing that '75' is only 2 digits.

[EDITED] Respectfully, I'd like to offer an equally plausible theory.

It's also possible that press operations used the imprinter with different settings. Likely due to different operators doing the work. You know: one day it's one guy - next day it's a different guy/day type situation.

One clear indicator is: How does one "fake" a Finest card from this period? If you mean 'backdoored', that's certainly a possibility. But again unlikely given the how few of the refractors have seen the market since their release in 1997. (my opinion)

I do get where you're coming from though. I would have never guessed that 97 Fleer Showcase Legacies were backdoored - and yet... ;)

P.S. If Beckett says counterfeits exists - well... truth be told I trust those deceitful manipulating morons like I trust Bernie Madoff.

Amazing ...

I searched all my duplicates and didn't find one :(

I wonder how many of these got thrown away because people thought they were badly printed !!!

If someone want's to throw one my way, I'll be happy to get it ;)

No, they are between the collections of two collectors. I only own one of them. I've just been lucky enough to bring the people who had the variations together in one place because they didn't know they had them.

Presumably at least as rare as the Thomas NNOF (which I think is in the ~200 copies range, though wide rule of thought is less than 100) because they were created from the exact same plate error.
