2008 is the draft where topps was forced to think outside the box for their draft product because lots of the draft picks were tied up in exclusive razor deals.

Topps responded by putting Inoa, Montero, Flores, and others in the autograph checklist. They also picked their guys and went after them hard (Posey and Beckham) When pushed topps can make some nice cards.

Btw, Totran, the only bowman products affected by razor are 2008 bowman chrome draft, and 2009 bowman with chrome

2008 Bowman chrome draft has an excellent checklist and is still a great busting value.

The only year they are pushed by a competitor, they improve. Coincidence?

hows that

So the answer is "no".

back off i dont care for your English lesson.

Don't let him get to you. No one else does. He's Razors little bitch. Runs to Brian/Razors defense every chance he gets. All the murse is good for is running his mouth, defending Razor and running breaks where he covers himself while everyone else involved takes a beating.

He's a ******. That's a fact.

Covers myself? I lost the most of everyone on that break.

You're in law enforcement which by my estimation means you are a security guard at Target.

The guy's posts are nearly impossible to read. He could easily change that if he took a second and made sure they made some sense.

Considering this is in the baseball thread, I have no problem continuing the debate.

I briefly mentioned that Topps decided to let Razor fizzle out which probably didn't effect their bottom line in the fiscal year, but it did effect the customer.

It's tough to tell how much they'll lose down the road, which's why I would have squashed them.

When you put out an entire year, or essentially two, when you consider that BDP is the big-boy of downright crap, it'll stick with you. What's making this worse is the awful secondary market prices. Even the people that're keeping everything from their busted cases go to ebay and see how they did.

These people are seeing AWFUL value, even if it's just perceived value that's been decreased by the market.

This is going to stick with people for a while.

Topps is only selling out because they're making just enough product to sell out.

I really think this haunts them for longer than they'd ever dream.

With that said, I guess if Topps was really hard up for cash: Good move.

I dont think they are hard up, but they did layoff more people today (word on the street).

You sound wishy washy in the second to last paragraph.First you say you have not "bowed out of baseball for good", and later on you mention you're not even sure you'll get back in the game or not.Which is it?

You came on here last year trumpeting to the masses what a great business plan you had over and over, and now you don't know what you want to do except make some poker cards.<yawn>You've supposedly been involved in this business since cavemen roamed the Earth, yet you still are "beginning to figure out the manufacturing business more and more".If your plan was so great to begin with you wouldn't have been kicked to the curb so easily.

Trust me. Our model does indeed work under normal circumstances. Bad economy, MiLB landscape changing and borderline illegal actions by MLBPA (no need for elaboration, yet) are hardly normal circumstances. We made money on baseball in 2008! I personally don't believe Topps or UD made money manufacturing baseball in 2008.

I am not sure well return. However, anyone who acts like they know our next step is kidding you and themselves.
Time will work all out. In the interim, we are putting substantial effort into our entertainment and MMA releases to make sure we 1000% nail them. That is one thing we definately learned in 2008 baseball effort.

I hope I don't come across as a Topps hater. Heck, if people bought my products on past reputation without any regard to what I put in the stuff, I'd probably be tempted to put forth a B- OR C+ effort too. However, I hope I NEVER fall into this complacent position as I have too much pride to not give 100% (even if I fall short of the high standards I strive for).

I keep reading that Topps "sold out" Bowman. When I worked there (2001-2002), every product was made-to-order, which means that they put out sell sheets, took sales orders, and then printed exactly the amount that was sold. There was no "sold out," and there was never any left over product at Topps. I know a lot has changed there since Eisner's group came in, but does anyone know for certain if this policy has changed?

Actually they are holding a TON of 08 Bowman Chrome Baseball and will surely close that out eventually.
That WAS NOT print to order. BG

To answer your question...no. While Topps does sign the players to individual contracts, they generally do NOT sign them to exclusive contracts, which is opposite to what Razor did.

I think the only time Topps signs someone to an exclusive is when they're signed to be a spokesman (ie. Ryan Howard, David Wright, etc.)

+1
Topps did the best possible job with the depth of players left after our deals.
Competition pushed them. I am glad we woke them up , albeit for just one year.

no

But topps being the company with history does not have to play that game

anyone who wants to compete with them would be smart to attempt to keep good players off the cards of other companies

They make cards of dorks? lol What's next, chess cards. So many of these poker players are such goobers. And to the person just waiting to tell me how much money they make, I don't care... they are still dorks.

I guess if you can call them dorks, I can tell yourself you are a turd.

At least I'm not a poker player. ;)

Because of Razor, Topps had to include guys they would NEVER put in a BDP product in 2008.

Montero, Stanton, Flores, Inoa would NOT have been in 2008 BDP as an auto. Instead, they would have been in 2009 B/BC and /or 2009 BC which would have helped those products.

Its nice to know Brian made money on his Baseball products in 2008 because many collectors and distibutors and dealers lost their shirts. Keep pimping that BG.

Who cares. Then they would not have been in 2008. That's not really a good point.

It is a great point because they would have had autos in in 2009 B/BC to start with and we know how massive a bomb that CL was. More than likely one or two would have been in 2009 BC which would be a nice addition to that product.
