I have been in this hobby more than 35 years and 10 years of those were as a shop owner. One thing I have learned is never trust the companies that produce the cards because they will tell you anything to sell their newest product. Its all about the sales for them and not the future market value of their cards. Too many times over the years we have seen card companies state a print run and even serial number their cards to find that they were BSing us all along. If you want to believe stated print runs, by all means do so. But as Jeff is saying (I assume this is what he means) the stated print run means nothing as these numbers have been fudged before and probably will be fudged again....no matter what company it is.
Value of a card is a direct reflection on demand and scarcity. Sales of cards from the manuafacturer is based on the same principle. Why would a manufacturer NOT hype their cards as being scarce because this will increase demand. But after seeing so much in this hobby I cannot help but to be skeptical that manuafactures put a few hyped cards on the side just in case they need a few quick bucks. We saw it with the 89 UD griffey and we saw it with other cards such as the OPC hockey product (I believe this was the brand) as well as others. I am definitly not saying Brian is holding some cards back....but in my opinion I cant help feeling that given the past track record of the industry holding cards back is a common practice for manufacturers. It is this reason alone I personally cannot trust stated print runs....serial numbered or not, no matter which company is providing print run numbers.
