I have been in this hobby more than 35 years and 10 years of those were as a shop owner. One thing I have learned is never trust the companies that produce the cards because they will tell you anything to sell their newest product. Its all about the sales for them and not the future market value of their cards. Too many times over the years we have seen card companies state a print run and even serial number their cards to find that they were BSing us all along. If you want to believe stated print runs, by all means do so. But as Jeff is saying (I assume this is what he means) the stated print run means nothing as these numbers have been fudged before and probably will be fudged again....no matter what company it is.

Value of a card is a direct reflection on demand and scarcity. Sales of cards from the manuafacturer is based on the same principle. Why would a manufacturer NOT hype their cards as being scarce because this will increase demand. But after seeing so much in this hobby I cannot help but to be skeptical that manuafactures put a few hyped cards on the side just in case they need a few quick bucks. We saw it with the 89 UD griffey and we saw it with other cards such as the OPC hockey product (I believe this was the brand) as well as others. I am definitly not saying Brian is holding some cards back....but in my opinion I cant help feeling that given the past track record of the industry holding cards back is a common practice for manufacturers. It is this reason alone I personally cannot trust stated print runs....serial numbered or not, no matter which company is providing print run numbers.

Exactly.

As many of us have said, serially numbering cards helps -- and companies still screw that up occasionally, but I believe that's actually due to printing errors rather than intent to deceive. When there's a "limited" and "stated" print run, there's always a large kernel of doubt. That's why boards like this exist; to keep a watch on the hobby. It happened with 04 hot prospects, it happened with the aforementioned hockey cards, it's due to happen again. Whether it's Razor, or Panini, or UD, or Topps, no one knows, but it'll happen again.

Hey Jaypers, I don't think no one thanked you for keeping track of these and post them for everyone to see.

Here it is : Thanks for the information. haha

Razor will also put them on their website next week as I saw it into another thread from BG.

Anyone worried about serial numbering can send them into BGS where the print run will be put on the slab:

Hmmm, that's very odd as none of mine had what they were supposedly numbered to.

I did not write /27 on the group sub, but it came out as /27 on the slab, pretty interesting..

Mine were slabbed without the /xx and now don't show up in the pop report that the rest of them do.

::facepalm::

I don't think any slab should have the print run unless the print run along with # of SP is actually placed on the card

Those cards do look nice

I think it is nice to have it documented so if you are going to purchase a slab, you'll know.

I did check however and Razor is not the first case of this, they also did it with Contenders such as the Stanton below.

BG mentioned that Razor will include the print run in future SPs

Even after seeing the Contenders card, just don't see how the grading service can put the print run down if it isn't placed on card itself. Really blows that some slabs have it, some don't

Yeah, not happy with BGS about that, their pop report keeping is bad.

I think that they assume the information from the company is the "gospel," and you would assume that they would given they have marketing relationships with the companies too ;)

I have a ton of Gold Auto's that I want to get slabbed. That way they do have the print runs on them for the potential buyers to be more informed rather than myself knowing how many of each there are.

My eyes aren't too good, but looking at those scans above, some appear to be labeled as 2008, and others 2009.

All of mine came back as 2009. Not too pleased about that.

What kind of premium has a 9.5 brought to razor metal? Anyone sold one yet?

Wow that is a pretty big mistake on Beckett's part.

Yet people continue to use their service.

To list cards from the same set as different years? Seems like a pretty big mistake to me. It's one thing if they chose to list them all as 2009 - I would not take issue with that. It's another if they have some as 2008 and some as 2009.
