Can we have Masterson back??? :D
You guys could probably get Craig "the 2nd coming" Hansen to come out of retirement.

If/when the Yankees clinch the division, what kind of hell breaks loose when they start resting regulars in these critical games against the Rays and Sox? If they win either game tomorrow, they clinch a playoff spot and can start taking the foot off the pedal.

I've never seen so many doom and gloom posts before.

As mentioned earlier.....did no one learn anything from 2004?

I learned that the Yankees choked worse than any other team in the HISTORY of baseball.

Yea, its just pathetic how boston fans are...for the most part. They are always doom and gloom.
Its also pathetic how these Yankee fans are now out from under their rocks that they hid for most of the season.

How does the Red Sox rotation fair if they have to use Beckett and Lester to win the wildcard?

Does Bedard or Lackey start Game 1?

yes the yanks have the biggest choke in sports history even after the sox choke away this wild card lead

but i did learn soemthing from then....and these circumstances are completely different

the 04 sox were a great team that happened to go down 3-0 in the alcs and miraculously came back from that deficit

the 2011 sox, nevermind a great team, are not even an average team right now, in fact I would say they are the worst team in baseball this past month, and there is no chance they get to the playoffs never mind the alcs

honestly if they do make the playoffs id make the argument that if everyone is healthy you do start your worst pitcher game 1 for the sox, although im not sure who is worse
i dont see anyone beating verlander the way he is pitching so no use throwing beckett out there who might give up 5 or 6 runs and could possibly win games 2 or 3, and instead put bedard or lackey in and give up 35 runs as verlander wont give up more than 2

DO NOT and I mean DO NOT count the Sox out. They've hit some bumps but one thing is for certain.....they have so much talent, so much potential, one pitch and one swing of the bat can turn it around for them. I wish they could just skip their at bats because I know they are so dangerous. I don't think of any other team in the majors that has so much fear factor as the Sox (IMO).

Don't count em out yet folks. The Sox aren't done. They've still got the Yankees to play this weekend and we all know that they beat the Yanks like they stole something.

Damn.........and I'm a Yankees fan talking good things about Boston. Must have a touch of the flu. ;)

I'm telling you.......still plenty of baseball. It ain't over yet bub. Boston will get in.

sorry you have not been in boston for the month of september.....this team is done no other way to describe it

sorry you just have not been watching any red sox baseball....this team is the worst in the majors right now

I doubt Lackey will even be on the playoff roster, lol. I think they would throw out Bedard, Miller, Aceves, or hell even Wake before him.

at this point why dont they just throw you out there to pitch....worst case scenario we lose, which is the best case scenario when lackey pitches

Miggy, I know they have been playing terrible lately but with the Rays playing the Yanks that helps their cause quite a bit....also, there is no way they are packing their bags yet after the season they have had. I think it will be a tight race at the end but we take the Wild Card.

Although how funny would it be if the Sox and the Rays both choke and the Angels make the playoffs.

I wouldn't mind seeing Aceves start but then we don't have a shutout 3 inning guy.....I see your point though as he usually comes in the game if one of our starters only goes like 3-4 innings (obviously not a gem, lol)

4-16 record in September.
Dismiss Sox fans as "doom and gloom" all you want, but some of us are actually watching these games. I mean, Lackey can't get a win in an 18-9 game. Francona is petrified of his own bullpen (and rightfully so).

IF (and that's a huge "IF") the Sox make any noise in the playoffs, and anyone says they believed all along, there's your proof that they know nothing about baseball. I say the same thing about people who say that about the 2004 Yankees series - if you honestly thought (with anything more than blind homerism/faith) that the Red Sox would come back, based on Game 3 and the fact that it had NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE, then you know nothing about baseball, and hindsight is 20-20. Sure, that team had grit/heart/balls (something the 2011 Sox sorely lack), but if you're being completely honest with yourself, it was a fluke.

I've already passed the point of being disappointed with this team, now it's a car wreck I can't turn away from.
