Well considering he ONLY pitches when we have a lead, it's quite tough to get wins....

Wins don't matter for a reliever, but losses do.

That means 8 times he has given up the run that caused the Red Sox to lose.

If you take the 8 losses Bard has and give him 0 (it's possible, see; Robertson, David), the Redsox would be three games ahead of the Yankees.

Not to mention, Bard leads the majors in losses for relief pitchers. Not a good thing to lead the league in. And for a setup man, your loss record id totally dependent on your pitching.

And if Lackey wasn't on the team we would have 120 wins, what's your point?

What the hell happened to Bard recently? He was performing about as well as last year then the wheels came off.

So do the Sox bring back Papelbon or let Bard take over? Murkier given his recent performance, yes?

Pitchers go into slumps just like hitters do; his mechanics were off a bit and he admitted that. With that said I think they will try hard to bring back Papelbon because Bard has not performed well in the closing role so far in his career.

I guess the real question is what will the cost be? I don't think he'll be giving them much of a hometown discount.

Are you kidding me?

The umpires are helping the Sox more than the Yankees are.

The umpires recorded three outs in the fifth.

Scotty, I want your honest opinion.

Did the batter swing?
Was Guerrero out?
Was Jones out?

So the game should be tied right?

Guerrero and the batter both should have been safe, and on base for the single by Jones.

Then there would have been first and third in a tie game with no outs.

The Sox got a gift there.

I'm not complaining.

EDIT: Especially since we lost a game the other night because of a blown call against us

Makes up for the missed call on Ortiz in game 1 yesterday.

not really his yankees, believe he is from vermont

either way, even if the sox go up 3 games in the wild card after tonight (although they very well might and will blow this 5-4 lead) and hang onto the wild card, no chance they win a playoff series, just no chance

Looking at that replay it is very hard to tell.

In my opinion it looks like ball never even hit the wall in fair territory. To me the ball seems to change direction just in front of the foul line and kicked out. I even heard the same opinion on ESPN.

With such crappy quality it is hard to tell. Even if there was replay I don't see conclusive evidence to over rule the play.
