I would say that this thread boils down to a few points. It honestly doesn't matter what your motives were for selling your cards. You did so in an unethical and illegal fashion. As has been mentioned before, shill bidding is essentially stealing from people. Why not just go out and pickpocket people for the cash? It also doesn't matter if you don't think that squeezing extra money out of people was wrong, as society as a whole has deemed it wrong. I'm sure there are murderers locked up in prison who didn't think that their actions were wrong.

You have alienated yourself from this community now, which represents a decently significant chunk of the larger collecting community. Your cards are rare enough that it is obvious which are yours, and now everybody knows that you practice shady business. This could end up causing people who would have otherwise bid on your cards to decide otherwise. Your actions to attempt to get some extra money may end up netting you less in the long run.

I call ********* on the story anyways.

This was a guy trying to recoup his money anyway he could, either by getting people to pay what he paid (which is waaaaay over the going rate) or by shill bidding his own auctions to get the money he wanted.

I will give him this much, at least he didn't go the "sick friend" route. That one is done way too often. His is much more original and you could tell he put more thought into it (even if he has the spelling and grammar of a junior high kid).

At least we won't be seeing him anymore (which is more than I can say about a certain Miguel Cabrera fan).

pigskincardboard - Wouldn't you not call the cops on your neighbor smoking a doobie on his porch because it is LEGAL to smoke weed in your country?

I love how smoking pot on your deck is somehow on par with basically stealing. I can say for sure if my neighbor is smoking pot on his deck I wouldn't call the cops. But if he was walking around the neighborhood stealing stuff while smoking pot I would.

So I like Slade Heathcott and have a lot of money?

Apparently you dont have THAT much money if you're trying to slang these cards around to get her through school.

After all this, I hope you're at least hitting that occasionally.

YOU KNOW
Seems his auctions are still running, as I see them through the FCBay, so he is still a member of that. But when you actually click his auctions, he clearly does not have a store anymore. was that his knock on his account from ebay or did he do that himself?

It was only 3 pages because gilmo made sure to rush in, tell everyone to basically ignore what they saw/read, claimed it wasn't shill bidding because he said so, and locked it down. That thread had potential.

The College story does not make to much sense. I have a kid in college and we have tried to get loans and the first year we made to much and in the past one we did not make to much. So I was taking to a guy at work who told me if I was divorced from my wife, my kid would actually qualify for more money thru other programs to help kids with going to or finishing college. I did not think it to be true, but it turns out my Daughter boyfriend has divorced parents and he seemed to get most of his first year paid for, when my kid had to borrow like 5k and so did we.

But hey he is a nice guy and being a young guy too he found away to be a humanitarian at such a young age. If he is majoring in social work then this will help with his studies. I have to say this has been one interesting topic that does not seem to have an ending yet.

I don't see anywhere that I "judged" you; what I wrote was a pretty spot on summary of what happened at the end of the thread.

As to whether I have a problem with you personally; absolutely not. The way that topic was handled, however, didn't sit well with a fair amount of members. I understand the feeling of wanting to protect one of your own, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the truth. It isn't right, and people are going to notice it, but it is understandable.

For the most part I think you do a good job of maintaining peace and are very fair in most circumstances. Besides some uneducated comments on the topic of authenticators/authenticating of autographs, there's not anything really bad to say about you personally, or the job you do. I don't post too often, but FCB is my favorite board and the one I check first.

But then again, who am I anyways.
