I don't get it myself. I'm sure it's the monopoly thing, although when they were the only company in the 70's they managed to change the pictures from year to year. *sigh* I miss Donruss, who had no problem getting 5 pictures into one product in stuff like 03 Leaf Limited, and the good lord only knows how many different photos were used in 05 Absolute. Going from all that variety in a single set, to the same picture set after set, year after year... it's quite an adjustment.

Easily fake. STAY AWAY.

Marked as jersey at the bottom.

Pretty sure it's legit. Guy is/was a Rickey collector. Can't remember his name off hand, but I recognize his eBay name. I've dealt with him in the past. Card says Prime Swatch as well. He says it's not a 1/1, rather just the only card like that.

Disagree. That patch has been used on other players cards, and if you know that set, the jumbo was all grey or all white. All the primes are red, blue, with white or grey.

Good examples of what is and isn't.....

I am going to say fake. I have never come across that card with anything but a white or gray patch. As far as him being a former Henderson collector, that doesnt mean anything, as I am sure we all have a fake patch or two in our collections thanks to some unscrupulous ******.

Definite fake. It doesn't say Prime Patch on it, it says "Authentic Game-Worn Jersey". These were clearly labeled, and the genuine "Authentic Game-Worn Jersey-Prime" cards don't have logos like that anyway.

Patches like the one in question would probably fall into the "Sleeve Patch" category. Sorry for the obnoxious scan, it's the card at the bottom. Although this does show how well labeled each card was...

Of course, while they tried to kick ass at labeling everything, there was human error involved, so you can never really say with 100% certainty that a card is fake, just because the patch doesn't match the description...

With this card, I think the most important thing to look at (besides the extreme popularity of this particular subset amongst patch fakers) is this simple fact: Rickey didn't have a Jumbo Swatch Prime in this set. Well, that's according to Beckett's OPG in 2005, and neither my list nor theirs is infallible.

And just because these couple of scans felt left out....

I never noticed that they described each patch in such detail. That's what the card companies need to do going forward or include a pic of the patch on the backs of the cards.

Or what? We'll start buying cards made by the other officially licensed manufacturer of baseball cards? Topps doesn't care because Topps doesn't have to care. Collectors have shown them the truth of this by gobbling up all crap they produce.

Although, I don't think you can really lump Rickey collectors into that category. I don't know about you guys, but I buy 0 boxes and 0 packs. So.....

OK, so I recant my previous statement. Prime at the top of the card probably threw people (me included) off. Looking back at it (it was late when I got home last night) the patch itself looks fishy. I never recall seeing a patch like that on any uniform. I do have a fake patch card that I bought knowingly for $5 or so. I don't think the seller thinks/knows it's fake as he was always honest with me. I think he probably bought it thinking it was real.

So I'll be headed to Ohio in the morning and inching ever closer to get my Rickey Room completed here soon. Will also have Ohio State stuff, but the majority will be Rickey!

Also have a couple extra things to pick up. One of which I am really excited about and will post pictures to see how I should mount it.

Just curious.....has anyone checked out my cooking site?

True.... It obvious Topps doesn't care, you see it every time a new product is released with poor quality control. I mean no quality control.

I just know that i will not be adding many patches to my collection anymore.

I buy 0 boxes and 0 packs as well. I let the box busters find my Rickey's.

Pretty sure your quad is the same as the one I scanned? Is that the 1/1 bat knob end?
