I'm the type that will really work with the seller and hardly leave negatives. But I'm considering chalking up a red one here:

I won this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0446771113

I immediately paid via paypal. I then asked the seller if I could have the redemption code from RHR #17 as listed in the auction. Yes, I got a major steal (it is the Longoria autograph).

He said no problem. And gave me an 11-digit redemption code. I had never redeemed a code before so I didn't immediately know it was fake. I signed up for Topps, put it in and of course I got the "codes are only 10 digits long" and was denied.

No problem, maybe he had a typo. I sent him another message back explaining codes were only 10 digits and not 11. I asked him if he made a typo and if he could double check the back of card #17 as in the picture of the auction.

He got back to me claiming it WAS typed right and was the exact code on the back of the card. At this point I think he's trying to back out of the deal b/c he doesn't want to cough up the Longoria for $9.99, but again, I give him the benefit of the doubt.

I politely say "Ok, please just send the lot to me and I will look into it when I get the package"

He messages back: I will refund you if the redemption code isn't working.

I said: "Please do not refund me. I would still like the lot. If you refund me, it will only make it look like you are backing out of our contractual agreement b/c you didn't like how much your auction sold for" (I'm thinking I get the lot of cards, if the rookie redemption is already redeemed, I file a NPB anyway for item not as described)

He doesn't respond and just refunds me today.

What would you do?

I guess everyone would be as irritated as me. I do feel cheated, but like someone said, I didn't lose anything. I would like to leave just a neutral since he did refund me but no one looks at neutrals. How else could I warn people of his antics if I didn't leave a neg?

I don't understand the reason you're trying to protect the seller. People make mistakes on shipping sometimes and I'm willing to work with sellers on that. This guy just backed out of a deal because he didn't think it sold for enough. To make it worse, he even lied to you about it. When you even said you still wanted the lot and not to refund you he just refunded you anyway.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but my interpretation of the offer for refund was "after you get it, if it doesn't work, I'll refund you."

I think you tipped your hand to the seller that he just lost out big time. I think your immediate paranioa that he wasn't going to send had you make some bad assumptions. If the code he sent you didn't work, why press? Just wait until you get the redemption card in hand, THEN try the code. If it doesn't work at that point, get your money back and file a neg.

And for everyone that said to neg him without a second thought, does what I just said change your mind. I think a lot of you made the same paranoid assumption. The selelr never said anything to the effect of "I'm sending you a refund now."

EDIT: I did misread slightly; but my point that it was your paranoia that tipped him off is still valid. Now I'd say you can neg him for the refund. But ask for it one more time.

Nope, doesn't change my mind. Even what you said was true, even when he found out about the Longoria he decided not to honor the deal. That's what I'd be giving him the negative for.

Give him a positive. If any buyer sends me this crap

"Please do not refund me. I would still like the lot. If you refund me, it will only make it look like you are backing out of our contractual agreement b/c you didn't like how much your auction sold for"

Then I'd end the transaction as well. If we have a transaction going and someone comes in and starts calling me a crook then F-you...get your card somewhere else.

Then you would most likely get a negative... not the smartest play.

As Hive said...you tipped your hand. You couldn't wait?Come on guy!I feel bad for you and I do think its BS and yeah...I'd neg him in a heartbeat but your learned a lesson...don't do a thing until you get your cards. You even asking probably piqued his curiosity because apparently he didn't know what he had or it would have somehow made its way into the title. You promptly alerted him and while he may take a neg...you don't get the card and he still gets to make money on it elsewhere. You don't benefit from that.

He is saying he wouldn't sell to someone who "insulted" him even after they already paid... so the buyer could leave a negative.

1. Leave him a negative
2. Watch for him to relist the item
3. Win it at all costs with another ID
4. Once received, file a fraudulent Item Not As Described
5. Send back random cards with delivery confirmation (You will win the paypal decision)
6. After a month or so send him a money order for the amount owed in the first auction.
7. If you are still bitter, slap that ass with another negative.

Sometimes two wrongs DO make a right.

That would work if you'd want to work the system a little

I always thought sellers actually weren't required to complete the sale if the seller didn't want to. "ebay is only a venue"

Also, it seems that ebay no longer tells you if the user is no longer registered - I think ebay only restricts accounts now until strikes are removed. Is this new??

In so many ways people put too much faith in the good ol' 'bay.
