Cards actually look nice, though it maybe because of Ichiro's illegible scribble making it onto the card, than anything else.

I must be the only one who thinks that looks like crap. Maybe it's the big font at the top.

Out of the rainbow, I like the dark blue. And for those bashers....

This card was ORIGINALLY created by Star Co. Copied by Topps, the choice of prospectors. Even says Star on the card.

Anyways, nice job BG.

We have had Tons of people tell us VALIANT is equally (and in some cases more) beautiful than it's inspiration 13 years ago.

Here you go.

And it is a Crusade rip-off.... isn't it? The term "rip-off" might ruffle your *******, maybe I should have said "immitation." Feel better?

I missed that. And let me be the first to say, who cares. He's pimping his own product. Kind of why he's here. Was he supposed to say, "It's a mere shadow of the original set and is in no way affiliated with it."

Rip-off. Imitation. Copy. I don't care what you call it. But you were using it as a slight or a slam on Leaf and I called you on it by explaining to you that Crusades were inserts in Leaf products and you got butt-hurt. Your butt feel better?

IT'S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COMPANY YOU BUFFOON. I'm not saying they don't have the right to make it, but it's an "imitation" of a product put out by SOMEONE ELSE. You are DENSE.

You do know that the artist that designed the crusades designed the Valiant set, right?

I don't know how the hate on this thread is related to the card design. Ichiro's auto is the real problem here. It looks like some 4 year old scribbled all over the card. I'm not even sure what language that is supposed to be.

Brian, perhaps you should create a set called "Bitch-ified 2012". For all those collectors that whine and moan about everything you do, just let em open a pack of this stuff and it will solve all their ills.

Anyways, nice job BG.

Looks like Topps kept the Refractor name at that.

The problem I have, and the difference with what Topps does, is that Topps puts the sets out as what they are, reprints or tributes to their older sets. Heriage mimics a specific set every year, it's supposed to. The Lineage set has copies of many different year's sets. It's on purpose, and of their own designs.

This is a blatant copy of an old set that Brian is putting out as his own. He may or may not own the rights to Crusades, I don't know, but he isn't marketing it as a Crusade flashback, or anything like that. I don't care about what new "technology" it takes to make his that are different, it's the same looking cards with an identical design scheme. Of course they look great, they did 13 years ago too.

For someone trying to make his mark in the baseball market by promoting innovation and new ideas, this doesn't show anything.

So far in baseball, he has this Crusade-copy and Metal with quasi-Superfractors.

That's exactly what my point was on page 2 of this thread, but you wrote it more eloquently.
But if we post anything negative about a Leaf product, we're immediately attacked as "haters."
I have nothing against Brian or Leaf or Razor.

Wow, those look great, why all the hating around here?

Because they look exactly like Crusades, as Ian Stewart's scans show.
I have nothing against Leaf or the owner Brian, but why rip off the design?
It's almost like Brian read all of the FCB posts about how popular Crusades are and then thought, "I'll copy the Crusades design 100% and call them 'Valiant' and they'll be as popular as Crusades.
It just seems lazy and uncreative.
Leaf scored with Ichiro autographs. Why not have a completely new design instead of copying Donruss' product, which of course I know was with Leaf.

I like the idea of recreating the classics!
Some of the most popular sets have been retro, topps heritage, fan favorites, topps stars, reprints of first ud patch set (1997), etc...
A tribute to the most classic sets for todays modern players is great! Let the haters hate...if it's not this they are griping about, it is something else.

Leaf still needs to make either reprint rookie autos or buyback autos of veterans that never had a auto rookie (e.g. thome, 1990 frank thomas rookie auto would be SWEET!...a 1990 leaf griffey auto would also be WAY cool!

Make them inserts...that would really sell your sets!

I also think a remake of this classic set of todays stars would be awesome!

Huh? it seems pretty obvious that he is doing EXACTLY that. Why do you say he isn't?
Although i personally would have preferred if he used the exact same design than modifying it slightly.

Just like the topps fan favorites look "similar" to original design, but not the same. Collectors prefer it if they use the same design like the 2001 topps archives or heritage than the simlar design like the topps fan favorites. both are usually successful, but the ones that have the same design are always preferred.

I didn't, but it seems like a waste of money when Photoshop could accomplish the same thing.

We have done plenty of cards across our brands with 100% original designs.

We would be idiots not to listen to customers when they ask for something.

Prospectors (who draft appeals to 95%) want Metal, they will get metal.
TONS of people have itched for the return of cards that look like Valiant, they are getting them.

I would MUCH rather put out product like Metal and Valiant that are visually appealing than the schlock that is being tossed out there in 90% of releases today.

I guess well agree to disagree. BUT, with Valiant production roughly 70% of Metal Draft production, I expect Valaint to find plenty of suitors.

Ichiro's autograph has looked the same for years, why are people complaining about it now? Anyone who has half a brain knows this product will sell fast. I think the cards look great.

In hand, with a camera, on a scanner...doesn't matter

I wish you luck with the company and your products BG, but don't spit on my head and tell me its raining
