Should've sold during ST.

For once, we agree!

Satan must be having a snowball fight

Shocker.

For real though, how much higher did people expect Montero cards to go? It's really unbelievable what people expect. Weren't base chrome AU's up to like $80? Maybe more?[/quote:1sikuqat]

Much more room to grow. I learned my lesson by selling Stanton at $60 only to see him peak at $130. If a Marlin OFer can reach those heights, Montero can easily hit $150 if not higher. Hughes Chrome Auto's hit $150+, JOBA Chrome Auto's did over $150, Montero can easily get there. Non-NYers will never understand what the NY hype machine will do to cards.

Hopefully you all come back when the time calls for it.

I believe this is the third time we've had an "I told you so" montero thread.

Yes, I wonder how many of us will still be here in twenty years.

Agreed.
I remember from day 1 Joba was king of NY for a good month.
The reporters/announcers in NY are great at hyping up prospects. They use unrealistic comparisons, give unrealistic stat projections, and, like they did with montero in ST, constantly reinforce the greatness of the player if they struggle.

Like I said, be sure to come back and it wont even be 20 weeks.

What will happen in 20 weeks? Will Montero be inducted into the HOF already?

I'll admit. I bought at 80. And feel pretty stupid for it.

But still, all it takes is a call up and a good game playing for the Yankees for them to hit triple digits. I'm just worrying that it may never happen :?

I'm not pushing any cards...so I'm not the one with an angle, am I?

Obviously where the card or player is in 20 years isn't very important even though its what should matter most.

if some people dont understand the power of a legit yankee power prospect and their ultimate card potential they are just not cut out for this game. Most Montero people who had stashes most likely sold off some stuff at top hype and now have gravy. If he gets the call and has even a decent showing skies the limit. Its the exact reason why some of us do this stuff.

you're connnnnnnnnstantly pushing your angle. Let's all be honest here. I'm a prospector, the market lives on hype.

You constantly bemoan it and try to make the point that bowman is infested with minor leaguers masquerading as major leaguers and that people are stupid for buying them.

Its in every other post you make, Own it.

Your angle is you hate prospects, prospecting, and any set not named Topps

Did I miss anything?

Oh, you're an obnoxious troll. Forgot about that

Are you officially paid to come here and try to insult people? Must be. I can't imagine how else you could make money because you generally don't know what you're talking about.

Its obviously trolling when someone tries to talk about long-term desirability of prospect cards...not. ::facepalm:: So much for fair and balanced coverage, but then again that's exactly what some people want, no?

Sure. So what if I think Bowman is a joke for MiLB players masquerading as MLB players, *AND* that I think Elite and Pro Debut and Razor are more honest and better options without Bowman's artificial, built-in hype. That doesn't make me against prospecting, just against false advertising.

Locate the many threads where I've said all this in the past and own up to the fact that not all aspects of prospecting are honest and then I'll know you yourself are being honest here; otherwise it seems like you're just another pure prospector trying to discredit anyone who tries to question prospecting in some of its vulnerable areas.

If you think his card values will never be higher than they are now then sell. The "sky is falling" mentality in this thread is hysterical. Montero is 21 years old and has hit .289 with 28 HR in 726 AAA AB's.

Here's a little perspective.

When Mark Teixiera was 21, he was in college.
When Adrian Gonzalez was 21, he hit .216 in AAA.
When Hanley Ramirez was 21, he hit .271 with 6 HR in AA.
When Evan Longoria was 21, he hit .299 between AA and AAA.
When Ryan Braun was 21 he hit .352 in Low A and Rookie League.
When Joey Votto was 21 he hit .256 in High A.

Youre speaking as if people expect Montero to be a Yankee

Almost everyone I know expects him to be traded.

Montero's defense will not allow him to stay at C full time and most expect Romine to be the future C in NY

This is where the real difference of "prospecting" and "investing" come into play.

People who "invest" in Yankees prospects are always almost let down. People who "prospect" them always do well.

Not one of them is a catcher? How is this perspective?

What's your argument here? He's not playing well at AAA or he's not going to be good enough to be a MLB catcher. If the former, then take into account his age and the above comparisons. If the latter, consider him a first base conversion waiting to happen, then again, take into account his age and the above comparisons.
