May be old news, but I just saw highlights saying Strasburg was pulled in the 8th today with pain in his lower ribs. Think he's got delivery mechanics problems? Hmm...

Aztecs win, but Strasburg leaves with possible injury

Stephen Strasburg - Bruce K. Huff / Union-Tribune
San Diego State defeated New Mexico 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon in the Mountain West Conference baseball tournament at Fort Worth, Texas, but the victory did not come easily, nor without a scare that could impact the team's postseason hopes.
All-America pitcher Stephen Strasburg left the game with two out in the eighth inning after the team's athletic trainer went to the mound. There was no early word on what happened to Strasburg, who has one-third of the Aztecs' 39 wins this season (39-19).
Strasburg allowed just three hits with one walk and six strikeouts as he improved to 13-0 with a national-best 1.24 ERA. SDSU closer Addison Reed allowed a run on three straight two-out hits in the ninth inning and then hit a batter to load the bases before retiring the final hitter to record his 18th save, most in the nation.
The victory moved the Aztecs into a winners' bracket showdown Thursday night against the winner of Wednesday night's game between Utah and top-seeded (and host) TCU. If the Aztecs win that game, they would advance to the championship round of the tournament, which awards an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament to its winner.
The Aztecs have not advanced to the NCAAs since 1990.
SDSU had a frustrating afternoon offensively, stranding 11 runners over the final six innings. But the Aztecs scored in the sixth on a two-out double by Mitch Blackburn and added what proved to be a needed insurance run in the ninth on a wild pitch.
Nick (DC): Any chance the Nats pass on Strasburg?
SportsNation Jim Callis: (2:19 PM ET ) Only if he gets hurt.

Glad to hear it's just a back cramp.

Austin said:How's Strasburg's overall pitch count for the season? I can't find that stat online.
He's pitched 102 innings over his 14 games, which is about 7.2 innings per game.
That's more than most Major Leaguers average.
But since he's so dominant, I would not think his pitch count goes too high.
I hate it when high school and college coaches overuse pitchers, leading to a possible Minor/Major League career full of injuries.

Pretty sure Gwynn has been around the game a few years, and knows what and what not to do.
I'm not worried.
