Rose bet ON the Reds.

Of all of the arguments often raised in defense of Pete Rose, this one is among the most mind-bogglingly absurd.

Rose bet on the Reds, but he didn't bet every game they played. That immediately opens up the possibility that he would manage differently in games in which he had money riding on the outcome. Who is to say that he wouldn't manage his bullpen differently when there was money on the line, leaving certain pitchers unavailable the next night (when Rose wouldn't place a bet)? Just because he was betting on his team to win doesn't mean that his betting habits wouldn't potentially manipulate the outcome of games that he didn't have action on.

And what kind of message do you think he was sending to his bookies and other gambing cohorts on nights he wasn't betting on the Reds??

I dont think Santo has any business being in the hall. When i think of all-time great players, he's not there. Its called the Hall of Fame, not hall of very good. In fact, I dont agree with several of the recent inductees being hall-worthy(Rice, Dawson, Blyleven)
there is a long list of HOFers that are not as good as those 4 players.

Santo is one of the best third basemen of all time.
+1 big time! his not being is is the biggest joke on the Hall. and for those who think he should not be in......STOP watching baseball because you are F_EN clue..... less!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will be a sad day for baseball if the "steroids boys" get in before Rose and Jackson.
You should look a little closer at Pete Roses past when you talk about the steroid issue bro.

Are you suggesting Pete was partaking in the special juice? I don't have any information on that, please share.

As far as betting,...it doesn't diminish his accomplishments as a player.

According to Elmalo everyone is and was on the juice.

Pete Rose taking steroids, not so sure about that, possibly dabbled at the end of his career. What I was referring to was that he was a business associate with a trainer who was a cocaine and steroid dealer and he was sending his players to that trainer.

OK...but the reason why the others have less of a chance of getting in the Hall is because they actually used PED's (of some sort). Rose (as far as we know) didn't. If Rose "sent" people to a dealer, I get it. However, it still had no bearing on his playing abilities and accomplishments.

I don't know, currently, which play is, has or did. However, there isn't one player that you can name that would shock me if they did/do. I am skeptical of them all.

Will Dale Murphy ever get in? Close the doors to the place if he never gets in.

i agree completely. he was the man during the 80s. technically you should be compared to your peers and no noe crushed it like Murph back then.

Mark Grace = most hits in the 90's. Most hits in a decade is pretty good even if he did play for the CUbs.
Harold Baines = Harold Douglas Baines (born March 15, 1959 in Easton, Maryland) is a former right fielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball who played for five American League teams from 1980 to 2001. He is best known for his three stints with the Chicago White Sox, the team on which he now serves as coach. He ranked 7th in AL history in games played (2,830) and 10th in runs batted in (1,628) upon his retirement. Noted as well for his power hitting in clutch situations, he is tied for 7th in AL history in grand slams (13),[1] 4th in 3-home run games (3),[2] and tied for 7th in major league history in walk-off home runs (10).[1] Baines batted over .300 eight times and hit .324 in 31 career postseason games, topping the .350 mark in five separate series. A six-time All-Star, he led the AL in slugging average in 1984. He held the White Sox team record for career home runs from 1987 until Carlton Fisk passed him in 1990; his eventual total of 221 remains the club record for left-handed hitters, as do his 981 RBI and 585 extra base hits with the team. His 1,652 games as a designated hitter are a major league record, and he held the mark for career home runs as a DH (236) until Edgar Martínez passed him in 2004. With 1,628 RBI, Baines has the most RBI of any player eligible for the Hall of Fame not currently inducted. (Wikipedia)
