Rose bet ON the Reds.

Of all of the arguments often raised in defense of Pete Rose, this one is among the most mind-bogglingly absurd.

Rose bet on the Reds, but he didn't bet every game they played. That immediately opens up the possibility that he would manage differently in games in which he had money riding on the outcome. Who is to say that he wouldn't manage his bullpen differently when there was money on the line, leaving certain pitchers unavailable the next night (when Rose wouldn't place a bet)? Just because he was betting on his team to win doesn't mean that his betting habits wouldn't potentially manipulate the outcome of games that he didn't have action on.

And what kind of message do you think he was sending to his bookies and other gambing cohorts on nights he wasn't betting on the Reds??

I dont think Santo has any business being in the hall. When i think of all-time great players, he's not there. Its called the Hall of Fame, not hall of very good. In fact, I dont agree with several of the recent inductees being hall-worthy(Rice, Dawson, Blyleven)

there is a long list of HOFers that are not as good as those 4 players.

Santo is one of the best third basemen of all time.

Pete Rose taking steroids, not so sure about that, possibly dabbled at the end of his career. What I was referring to was that he was a business associate with a trainer who was a cocaine and steroid dealer and he was sending his players to that trainer.

OK...but the reason why the others have less of a chance of getting in the Hall is because they actually used PED's (of some sort). Rose (as far as we know) didn't. If Rose "sent" people to a dealer, I get it. However, it still had no bearing on his playing abilities and accomplishments.

I don't know, currently, which play is, has or did. However, there isn't one player that you can name that would shock me if they did/do. I am skeptical of them all.
