and when its found out that Pujols was on the juice there is going to be mass suicide here. Anyone have a fancy

You should ask them who Pujols is. Asking them who they think is the best does nothing to prove your point.

That also does nothing to show he is in the top players, everyone here knows who JD Drew is, is he the biggest star? I asked one so far and they had no clue who he was.

I'll buy that if you ask people in the NE no one will say Pujols is the best player. They're going by what they see on their front page and on the back of tshirts they see around town. So their ignorance can only be blamed on the over zealous Red Sox and Yankees fans and sports media in your area. The fact that anyone said Papelbon is proof of that.

I don't even know why I'm doing this because the contention is so absurd and is obviously trolling, but:

Howard OPS+ WAR
2006 167 7.1
2007 144 5.1
2008 124 3.7
2009 140 4.8

Pujols OPS+ WAR
2006 178 9.8
2007 157 10.6
2008 190 11.7
2009 188 12.7

Pujols sweeps all eight.

I was busy researching and cross referencing thir stats before I read your post.

Basically, over those 4 years, Pujols OPS+ is like 35 points higher on average than Howard's.

Game, set, match.

Once again, the difference between the two:

Pujols MVP = 3
Howard MVP = 1

I still haven't seen you try to argue around that.

I don't think you understand what he is saying. If you have to use facts to prove your point then you are only fooling yourself...

Right, everyone has to dig for facts to prove their point. He isn't digging at all to find his opinion to prove his point.

This thread is ridiculous.

You can try and compare stats all day long, dig up pictures of Pujols with Ryan Seacrest, play your fandom/collections/home loyalties, etc.

But to find the answer to who's better, it's simple.

Ask yourselves one question.

Which one out of the two is considered to be one of the greatest of all time already in his short career?

The answer to that question will be the better of the two.

As far as who's more recognizable, who really cares. Just because a player is more recognizable doesn't mean they are a better player.

And Anthony, if it weren't for Barry Bonds, Pujols would have like 6 MVP's already. And the one year Howard DID win it, he really didn't deserve it over Pujols either, and everyone except a little fanboy knows that to be the truth. Voters are obsessed with home run totals, and that's what won it for him.

Um, ok.

Without using facts, there are only opinions.

And my opinion (and that of, well, it seems like EVERYONE else on the boards) is that Pujols is better than Howard.

Is that better than using facts (or were you mocking him)?

I was pointing out how illogical his response was. Basically he did not argue with any of the statistical arguments (which clearly indicate Pujols is better) and instead said that the fact you used stats shows Pujols is "still right there." In other words, stop bringing facts into the argument.

That's what I figured, I got a little to defensive to quickly.

The last time he had this "argument" it turned into I do believe a 10 page nonsensical thread.

Albert Pujols is overall the better player.

Ryan howard was the deserving player in the 2006 MVP voting.

I don't see how he wasn't an' all star in 07 or 08 (runner up in MVP as well)

No worries. To be perfectly honest I probably should not have made the post to begin with. I like to think that I don't need to stoop to mocking someone on an internet message boards, not sure why I posted it.

If you can't mock someone on a baseball card message board, where can you mock someone ;)

I hear you, though I've found myself much better off not mocking at all. Never know who takes it personally and know it really bothers.

The best right handed hitter of all time! Pujols and Bonds are the 2 greatest hitters I have ever seen.

Not quite. He's not better than Mays or Foxx yet.

He is light years beyond Mays, and is past Foxx also. Look at average season comparisons. Mays played for 25 years, of course he had huge numbers. Average the numbers out per season, Pujols blows him away.

I don't know how old you are or how much you know about Mays but Pujols is not at Mays' level yet. Lets wait and see how Pujols plays out the rest of his career and see how he declines. If you can honestly say right now that Pujols is better than Mays you're just ignorant.

You give opinions. Here are facts.

Jimmie Foxx average season 26 HR, 96 RBI, .325 BA
Willie Mays average season 30 HR, 86 RBI, .302 BA
Albert Pujols average season 40 HR, 123 RBI, .334 BA

Pujold is still in his prime, and nowhere near declining. Facts do not lie, Pujols is better than Mays.

::facepalm:: Where did I say that Pujols was in decline? I said wait for him to decline and at the end of his career you can compare them. Show me some stats of Mays first 10 years compared to Pujols' first 10 years. Don't show me career numbers yet ****. Of course Pujols' prime average numbers are going to be better than Mays whole career numbers.
FYI Mays played 22 years not 25
