This was the selling point of 1991 Fleer Ultra. It was considered a high end product back then.
I will admit, I was excited about it.

What are some other "groundbreaking" selling points of cards sets of the past? I doubt Topps had slogans up until Fleer and Donruss stepped in, then companies needed the "hook"...
Anyone remember any others?

I remember those. Don't remember slogans. Stadium club had always been one of those products for me, it doesn't matter how many packs I bought I NEVER hit a star name. Always commons , minor stars. I love the product but even back in the day my best hit booked at .50

Ahh, Stadium Club. "The Home of Great Photography". Their big selling point was the use of Kodak photgraphy, or paper, r whatever...

I love that set, but I used to wonder why Fleer claimed it was the first card with four pictures when some earlier Sportflics did too.
Like 1988 Sportflics, with three pictures on front and one on the back.
But I guess since those were "magic motion" and you could only see one pic at once, it didn't count to Fleer.

Anyway, I remember buying a box of 1991 Fleer Ultra at a card show in Dallas about a week after they came out.
As with many Fleer boxes back then, there were no doubles.
The backs of the cards were gorgeous and the fronts were classy.

The '91 Fleer Update set was valuable for awhile, with valuable rookies of Bagwell, Pudge, Mussina and more, but the most valuable in the early '90s was the second year update card of Juan Gonzalez.

The 1992 and 1993 Ultra sets were even nicer.
I miss Ultra. I have most of the complete sets from 1991 to 2003.

They must not have ever looked at a pete rose rookie, among other cards which had 4 pics on same card from the 60s

Fleer must have bought a million gallons of that color printing ink because they used it in the next two years base sets!
Better than the gold/yellow they used for the '91 base.

A lot of people bash the 91 Fleer set, but they are not that bad in my opinion. There were a lot of really cool action shots and the design was simple. the yellow can be overwhelming, but it was unique with just about every other border being white. I like that set better than that ugly green border set the following year or the grey border set in 93. one card always seems to catch my eye every time and it is the Mariano Duncan card. It had a nice Barry bonds cameo as well.

Didn't those issues you mentioned feature four different players though? The claim to fame of 1991 Ultra was that it was four pictures of the same guy on a single base card.

IMHO not a "holy crap" type of innovation, but still noteworthy I suppose.

'91 Fleer Ultra was the first box I opened up and tried to make a set on my own also. Great cards.

I liked 1991 Ultra, but the dullness of the silver and printing of the photos always bugged me. Compared even with Leaf's silver and printing, let alone Stadium Club or 1992 Ultra, they were less impressive. If someone ever resurrects the Fleer brand, I'd love to see an updated version with more pop.

I remember that "4 photos" tag line and it was ridiculous. I'll see your 4 and raise you 27.

Maybe 4 photos of the same player was a new thing, but, like, who cares. One of those cases where the marketing people just couldn't think of anything else to say.

Heck on Will Clark (insert Griffey , Henderson and whoever else) 2010s items they can't even use 4 different images on 100s of cards, so for this to have 4 different pictures on one card , I'd say this is epic ;)

I remember the initial announcement my LCS got for this set. It was going to be ELITE, but Donruss beat them to the name and they changed it to Ultra - I remember the 4 picture claim.
