Unreal offer by the Flyers to Shea Weber with the next CBA up in the air. Pot meet kettle! The owners want the players to save them from themselves yet these offers keep getting made and accepted.

I almost wish Poile would let him go, take the 4 1st round picks and let the Flyers choke on all the cash due the first 4 years! Also, if he doesn't want to be here then don't let the door hit you on your way out.

I just don't see how Nashville doesn't match Philly's offer. You can't give up your best player for picks, especially with the way the rest of their offseason has gone.

True, but this whole situation is David Poile's fault. He should have locked Suter and Weber up long before now. If Weber goes so should Poile. It may be time for some new blood in upper management. How long can Nashville just tread water and be happy to make the playoffs, anyway?

Jesse this thread is for any hockey talk whether it be the CBA, free agents trades, hockey card or just a story about your hockey game from when you (or anyone else) were 6 years old.

also I agree the offer from the owners is ridiculous and I don't see how they could possibly think the players would agree to it. I realize it's just a starting point but it was an insulting starting point.

as for Weber if the Predators don't match the Flyers offer then I agree Poile needs to be fired.

very happy that the Preds matched Weber's offer from the Flyers.

Dave, I'm glad they did too, but I have a bad feeling that it will be short term. We shall see. I will hope for the best and prepare for the worst!:D

CBA talks to resume on Monday:

National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman reiterated to the National Hockey League Players' Association on Thursday that the sides must negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and that the League's owners are not prepared to operate under the current CBA past Sept. 15, the date on which the agreement expires.
"I reconfirmed something that the union has been told multiple times over the last nine to 12 months, namely that time is getting short and the owners are not prepared to operate under this Collective Bargaining Agreement for another season, so we need to get to making a deal and doing it soon," Commissioner Bettman said in remarks after Thursday's negotiating session at the League office. "We believe there is ample time for the parties to get together and make a deal, and that is what we're going to be working toward."

According to NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr, the Union will respond Tuesday to the NHL's submission with its own proposal on core economic issues. The sides plan to meet in Toronto beginning Monday to continue negotiations.
"Whether you call it a counter-proposal, an alternative proposal, a proposal -- we expect it on Tuesday," Fehr said.
"We're not close on that issue (revenue sharing)," Commissioner Bettman added, "and frankly revenue sharing is part of the bigger economic picture."
Fehr said the Union indicated to the NHL that it is not in favor of the revenue-sharing model combined with player salary reductions as outlined by the owners in their July 13 proposal.

"Let me just put it this way, there is a meaningful gulf there," Fehr said.

UGH!

Does not sound too promising!

Dave, I sadly agree. Looks like both sides are dug in. I knew this was going to happen when Fehr got his grubby hands involved!
