I expected bidding to get crazy on that one. I sold my Thomas ungraded a few years ago for 1K, but that's still an epic sale that might convince a few others that are sitting on them to sell their copy.
Speaking of set builders, a few new collector's to this set has made these spike quite a bit:
2001 Donruss Classics Legend Significant Signatures Autograph Nolan Ryan 171 | eBay
This surprised me:
2013 Topps Pedro Martinez The Greats Autograph Only One on eBay RARE 2 10 | eBay
granted, since 2013 Topps Series 1 came out I have only seen one redemption on ebay (that sold for $280) and this is the only live card I've seen. I've seen two live Griffey Jr's sell for ~$180. I also picked up the 2013 Topps Series 2 The Elite Pedro Martinez /10 auto for ~$180 at auction and figured this would go somewhere between $180 and what I saw the Series 1 redemption sell for.
Blew my mind how much this card sold for, and it doesn't look shilled!
Live Cards can occasionally pull 500% of the redemption price. Especially for a top player, small serial numbered set, and the hard core collectors said player has.
What other examples can you show to back this.
That's a pretty high "guessimate"... even "occasionally".
