This is interesting. This card sold for $255 bak in April last year.

Frank Thomas 1999 Skybox Star Rubies /50 - $255.00. This one surprised me a bit when you look at what the other stars that were listed at the same time ended for.

And the exact same card #48/50 sold for $88 this week. 1999 Skybox Rubies 99 Frank Thomas 48 50 RARE | eBay

The original winner was not the seller, or at least not the same account. But the winner of the second sale was an underbidder back in April, losing out with a $205 bid. Apparently, 10 months of ownership is worth $117.

absolutely creamed my highest bid...too rich for my blood!

interestingly looks like there was some shilling in there that pushed it over $2k..although the last 3 bids all look legit

I was out at around $1900 on the Kershaw (though I see our zero feedback friend adopted by bid style with .18 at the end). I don't think the ending price is crazy based on what the card is but I expected it to sell for lower. Even as most recognize he is one of the best in the gave I'm not sure people realize how good Kershaw has been to this point in his career. In his 4 full seasons in the MLB, he has never had an ERA above 2.91. (The only time he was above that was his RC season where he only pitched 100 innings). To put that into perspective, Justin Verlander has only had 2 seasons with an ERA under 3 (out of 7 full seasons in the MLB).

I understand Kersh is good, but even four years if good isn't HOF yet. If the sale is 5k, I just don't see much of an upside anymore nor after 2k or so do I. Though it looks like a few bidders do at this time. One so so season and the price is dramatically lower and unless its closer to the end or the player already retired then it can happen just like that. So with that said it is a wow, can't believe the ending price for me

The winning bidder has a big Kershaw collection, among other PCs. To my knowledge this will be the new centerpiece of his Kershaw collection. Looked like there was some chipping on the back lower edge.

I'm a big Claw fan, have some of his cards, but didn't see this selling for more than $3.5k (and my bid was even lower than that). Why do I keep hearing that the economy is sputtering along and consumers aren't spending any money??? :)

I was too. It was at $511 last night when I logged off, the end price raised my eyebrows (over $1900, FYI). I almost made a thread on it to do with "cards I'd like to rip the sticker off of and get signed IP" but this is sufficient.
