Looks like I'll be making a short unexpected trip to Florida later in the week.

My grandmother isn't doing well and is on Hospice care now, so I want to go down and see her before we loose her.
I spent every summer with her and my grandfather (while my father worked) from the age of 5-14.

We lost my grandfather in 2008 from cancer. I was lucky enough to come home on emergency leave from Afghanistan and made it there the day before he passed. Hospice was there as well. They are angels.

Russ, I had the same thing happen in January. My Grandmother had to have a leg removed due to compications with Diabetes, and never left the hospital. I got to TN on a Sunday and spent most of the afternoon with her. She was in bad shape but could still talk a little. My Parents live in Clarksville, so we drove home that night. We got a call at 4am she had made a turn for the worst, we arrived at the hospital as she took her last breath. So what I am trying to say is get there as quickly and safely as you can, none of us ever know how much time we have. My prayers are with your Grandma and Family.

Checking on flights now for Wed-Sunday.
I have a dinner party tomorrow evening I can't get out of, so earliest will be Wednesday.
Then I have another one next Monday, so gotta be back Sunday unfortunately.

And man, short notice flights aren't cheap. :twisted:
My wife & kids won't be making the trip unfortunately due to costs and school, which stinks. :?

Russ, so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I'm glad, though, to know that your grandparents lived what I assume were long lives and that she has such a caring grandson. I hope you make it there in enough time to spend some last quality moments with her. I am sorry, though, that your immediate fam can't be there. My grandfather died a few months ago and it made a big difference to have my wife and everyone else there. :grouphug: Sending prayers your way, friend.

I have to ask...why are so many of you up at the crack of dawn? And for those who are sleeping in (as in posting here around 6 a.m.) what, may I ask, do you do that causes you to rise at that hour?

No reason whatsoever other than I cant sleep and its easier to get things done. I usually go on 4 hrs of sleep and have always been up by 5 or so.
