I probably have $300 in Denker cards another $200-250 in game used equipment. It started out as a stash when he was doing well in the cal league.

ugh, Reid Engel and Ryan Pope. I once owned 10 of the 25 Pope orange refs. I had about 500 into him and about the same into Engel. Can't win them all I guess.

I have a feeling you're gonna make bank on that sig of yours though. I wasted about $120 on Billy Rowell and $80-90 on Jarrod Parker. I'm lucky if I could get $50 for all of it now. I still have hope with Parker, but it's gonna take a while.

2010 was going to be the year for those of us who bought into Parker. I still think we will make money on him (or at least those of us who are patient enough to wait for his return), but it will almost certainly be at least 2011 before he can really see big increases.

I've got 9 Dellin Betances Chrome Autos sitting in a box that I picked up for $18 per. I've managed to make a whopping $45.04 on him before fees, but I have the feeling that I'm going to end up in the red on these.

Let me go ahead and add Chad Rodgers and Johnny Whittleman to the list

About $150 in Rodgers (6 Chromes, Blue, Gold, 9.5 Chrome, 9.5 Ref) and another $120+ in Whittleman (3 9.5 Sterling Ref Autos, a base sterling ref auto and a BGS 9 sterling ref auto)

Why do people bring up Toe Nash? His career was done before all of his cards came out and they were never the big sellers of the set. He was never a big time prospect, more of a big time project than anything else.

For me, I've always been a dumpster dive prospector and I've had many a bust to be proud of...Bobby Bradley, BJ Garbe, Mike Tonis, Rich Stahl, among others.

In a few months, buyers will spend insane prices on Strasburg. But if he has TJ surgery this year (obviously hope he doesn't), a good number of buyers will never buy his high end stuff again (including me).

gomatt - you nailed the first half of this prediction, not sure on the second. People are still spending mountains of money on Strasburg.

ps - nice thread resurrection, this topic is always fun

I had a least a dozen Rich Stahl Refractors from Topps Chrome and quite a few Topps Limited and Topps Employee Set cards as well. Thanks for the reminder. That was the key for my cheap prospects, make sure they only had a limited amount of cards to begin with. Stahl definitely fit that criteria.

My contribution.......... PJ Phillips......... and I know I'm not the only one. I still have a massive PJ Phillips stash from 2005. Still think he's in High A playing for Rancho Cucamonga for like the third straight year.

Interesting that this thread got bumped. I just listed a Durant GOld Refractor on eBay and actually got $6 for it. Yay. We were so bad in 2005 that JP, Jim and I worked out a system where the first 16-17 serial #ed cards, one of us was allowed to bid on, the next 16-17, which would be 17-33, the 2nd one of us was allowed to bid on, and the 34-50 were allowed to be bid on by the 3rd of us. That way we weouldn't drive the price up amongst ourselves. Was still paying about $60-70 per gold refractor.

sigh.

Anyone need any Mike Durant cards?

6'4", african american big, huge, 1st base power hitter for the Phillies?

Oh wait, they already have one of those?

And he can hit .260-280?

Oh, and Durant can barely break .200 in high A ball?

Grrrrreaaaat.

Now that he is officially an MILB free agent....

Angel Salome will likely stay in my collection forever, unless some teams signs him as a catcher again.

i got back into baseball in 2006. i went to an angels' spring training game and had a chance experience with brandon wood. that night i checked ebay and so began my buy in late in the game. i still buy stuff for no reason other than it's an odd obsession with certain items. but like many here have said, collect what you like or who you like. he's a nice kid and always greets me with enthusiasm so it's all good to me. i figure this collection or a stock pile may end up going back to him down the road for his family to cherish. :grouphug:

ps
i've spent a few thousies...
( card ) $700 for a bgs 9.5 2003 gold refractor auto
( gu ) $800 for his 2007 red away jersey worn when he hit his 1st home run
