I'm insulting a slimeball who, in our hobby's eyes, is better off dead than alive.

Good moderating, allowing unprovoked insults to go forward.

Jeff you throw them out as liberally as anyone. Now pipe down and move on

Whether you liked the dude from the hobby perspective or not. He was still someone's Dad, Brother, Uncle, Son....someone will miss him....Not you...But someone. Idiot.

Like them (or him) or not, ud has completely, totally changed the hobby. Much of what we see & collect today is a direct result of what ud invented or "made famous."

First accepted premium card in every sport.

First accepted counter proof card.

Proved collectors wanted better
cards & would pay for them.

Introduced a tamper evident wrapper to the masses

First packed out autos

Introduced game used & patches to masses

Introduced gu & autos of hof'ers to hobby

Introduced cut autos to hobby

Introduced iconic babe ruth gu card

Introduced sweet spot autos to the masses

And theres so much more, Some bad but mostly good.

Its bad news when a hobby innovator passes on.

Hey, I have his auto on the back of a Ryan Howard RC... it must be worth 10x more today than yesterday now

And redemption cards

And infinite waiting games for redemptions

And reprinting their own products (and others) with reckless abandon

And refusing to pay athletes

And burning so-called partners

And running a company into the ground

...

Don't forget all of the rampant backdooring of product to wholesalers, reprinting of the 1989 Griffey Jr, RC, and along with incorporating the first game used, also the first fake game used product.

Whether cleverly constructed or flat out Jeff your a pro, own it

No, Joe, I don't. Other than calling Mario1975 a "Rich G. Style" idiot, I don't remember the last person I "threw" an insult "out at".

There are very few people in this world who deserve to die. I would not classify Mr. McWilliam to be one of them. I'm sure a lot of shady business practices occurred on his watch, but no one deserves to die because of that. RIP Mr. McWilliam, and my best wishes to his friends and family and his colleagues at Upper Deck.

After reading the Upper Deck expose' "Card Sharks," I've always considered McWilliam a deceitful sleazeball.
However, I feel bad for his family and friends and it's always sad to hear of someone's passing too early in life. RIP.

UD is responsible for some of the best high end products ever seen in this hobby. He may have had his share of ******, it doesnt change that fact. UD changed the way high end sets are made and set the standard for that.

He did it by screwing over the athletes by not paying them and you by not giving you the cards you "hit" with the redemptions. He also ran his buisness into the ground.

Ever wonder why no other company is copying UD's blueprint for high end? Most likely because the only way to make it profitable was to not fulfill redemptions and pay the athletes for the their sigs. Having a better design team doesn't wash that away.

So you're saying Topps cant make better designed cards due to money or because they pay athletes?

Like I said, he isnt a saint but UD and high end from a design standpoint are hard to touch...

I believe Press Pass racing had "used' items in their cards before any major sport.

No one said he deserved to die. Just that he wasn't a good person.
