I just never thought I would see ThoseBackPages pickup a card featuring a pitcher (let alone FOUR pitchers! )

Great pickups lately, everyone. I haven't checked this thread out in a few weeks. I especially like Martin's 4 T206 pickups, but I'm biased. Those Southern Leaguers sure are fun.

Thanks and congrats on reaching three figures in the monster quest! I have one more incoming (last card of the year) and its a tough one.

I really like the look of the Goudeys. I don't have any in my collection. I may add a few in 2010.

Nice Goudey pickups, RC. Every time I see your new additions, I appreciate the '33 set more and more.

Re: OFFICIAL- Vintage Pickup Thread.

Thanks guys - The '33 Goudeys are a neat set and fun to collect. I am probably looking to grab 235 total out of the set, there are 3 more Ruth's, another Gehrig and the Lajoie that are probably going to be out of my budget. I was very lucky to pick up one Ruth and a Gehrig in my initial purchase of this set.

RC

Edited to add: I think my favorite card of all (I don't own it) is the '34 Goudey portrait of Gehrig. It is just a classy image of the man.

Re: OFFICIAL- Vintage Pickup Thread.

Final pickup of the year. This is arguably the toughest of the Southern League cards to obtain (Old Mill back):

Thanks (some nice pick-ups yourself) but I've been lucky with the last 5 cards I picked-up. The guy who is number 8 all-time on the PSA Registry set for t206s has decided to downscale his collection. I was able to pick-up the Otey, Fritz, Stark and Tinker from him (and if money would have allowed about 150 more cards).

The Foster has come from a Southern League collector who had hoarded 6 Foster cards at one stage. He sold a couple on ebay - a PSA 5.5 and PSA 4.5 from memory and then offered a PSA 5 and two PSA 4's on Net 54. I have purchased from him in the past (the Mathewson in my collection) and he agreed to sell me one of these two 4's.

Only 42 more Southern Leaguers to collect to complete that subset!
