Just one, you can only pick one.

Mine: I would evaporate the term "book value." It has to be the most useless and irrelevant phrase is this hobby. Yet a good portion of sheep still follow it.

What about you?

I like book value, I really have no beef with it. Some see it pointless some dont. Just like I see book value for a car pointless, some dont.

Now if I could change something about the hobby it would be a way to prevent pack searchers and prices of boxes, 500$ for a Box of topps new product, thats insane.

Is the $500 insane or the $80 book value of cards in it?

Book value is generally useful for trading low-end cards. Incredibly useless for hot stuff and anything that sells for more than say $20-30.

I'd get rid of all the collectors/dealers/producers who live to "get one over" on somebody. Ripping people off, trying to trade their garbage for your good stuff, searching packs, making $1 offers in the hope you accidentally click "accept", expecting people to sell a card for a price that's an obvious typo, etc.

But I guess that's more of a societal problem than a card problem, so yeah I'll go with redemptions.

If I could change anything, it would really have to be with collectors. Change their minds about buying terrible products and pay more attention to the enjoyment of both the sport and the hobby as a connection to the sport and much less on the investment opportunity. Lack of customer interest has basically killed the minor league market and the "sanctity" of the common base set. Those are two areas I would love to see restored to their former glory.

It's hard to pick one thing to change... So much that is so wrong...

I would slim down on these crappy "high end" products. Seriously... you pay $300 for a 1-pack box. It gets you 1 jersey card, 1 dinged up base card, and a subpar autograph that's been folded in half and spit on.

I'll pay $300 (if I had such money) for a nice signed baseball to put on a shelf instead.

Proof that game used cards contain real game used memorabilia. Each card has to state what game and date the bat, jersey etc was used on on the card.

I hate that if I buy a $80 box of baseball cards my "hit" could be an auto of a scrub relief pitcher that pitched in a couple games.

Or worse a "prospect" that never reaches the majors.

Nor was I. It was meant more as a joke, pulling both of the 2 complaints together.

Only major league players in major league jerseys.

I would be game for this only if Bowman created a minor league line of product and of course would be licensed. That way the two could be completely separated. No minor league in major league products and vice versa.

Many valid concerns voiced. My completely personal wish is that I wasn't bored with it. I'd love to take on a new project, but nothing holds my attention. Set building, insert chasing, type collecting, players, teams, slabbed set registry, prospecting, vintage, new stuff, case ripping&flipping, dabbling in other sports and non-sports, I've done it all and don't care to do it again. I'm also not one to just "buy what I like" and build out my collection with single cards of various things here and there. I spend a couple grand and pick up a few nice things and still feel unfulfilled. I have to collect with something of a purpose. I've bought a dozen or less sports cards in the last couple months that I can remember, and I'm not sure what else to do. Yet I love collecting baseball cards. I'm making the 3-hour drive to the Tri-star show in Houston in a few weeks just hoping to see something that excites me. Maybe selling it all and starting fresh would help. Though that sounds like a nightmare in itself.

Maybe the next Heritage set will be fun.
